I have another bike I am looking at that is a '92 with 5,000 miles. I haven't seen it in person because it is 4 hrs away, but it looks to be in good condition and sounds like it runs good. The current owner said it has a new carburetor and CDI. He said he has kept up on regular maintenance and oil changes. All lights and accessories are still there and work. It does need a new battery. I think the price is fair for it, but I'm wondering if there is anything maintenance or repair wise that I should expect coming given the year and mileage? Anything else I should be looking for or be aware of with it? With good oil changes, how long can I expect an older bike like this to last before needing to be rebuilt? I need to stay between $1,000 and $1,500 for a bike, can I do any better in that price range? Thanks

I just drove 883 mi one way to pick up a bike for 1300. Yes that is crazy, but they don't last long for sale. Seems like a reasonable price to me as long as it runs fine and is not tore up. With that mileage it might need a chain or sprokets, just look it over, doesn't take much to change out those.

^^^i agree...i'd say go take a look at it and take it for a ride if he will let you or just have him cold start it and ride it so you can at least see if being ridden...it has a kicker so he should be able to start it without the battery...then make your decision...seems like a pretty fair price...check tires for wear/rot, like was said above check chain and sprockets, check all lighting and horn, check inside the tank for rust (the one i bought had a gas leak in the stock tank, i had him replace the tank with a clarke before i bought it), check to see if the cases are in good shape (i.e. if it's been dropped or the cases have been opened), can also check the bars, pegs and signals to see if it's been dropped...you may be able to knock off a little money if you find something wrong with it...if it's in good shape i would pick that thing up right away
