I really only wanted 2 things off this bike.
Gas tank-rusted out.
Engine/Trans. needs rebuilt but knew that. It will end up in my '99 sometime.
Speedo/Trip meter looks like a direct swap. Instrument lights different. Mounting bracket has different hole spacing.
Stainless head pipe looks like it'll fit. Muffler looks similar. Have to check bends. Has a nice stainless heat shield.
Turn signals-Fronts same length as TW. Rears shorter should fit under and be protected by CycleRack.
Front fork tubes are larger diameter.
Rear shock different.Has linkage system.
Rear brake arm 1/2" longer.

How many wires on the CDI? I've always suspected the early XT's could be possible CDI donors for the '87 TW's. Never had my hands on one.

10 wires.
My bad. Not sure what I was thinking. It was the early '80's XT200's which may share CDI's.

Though it may work in an '88-00 TW. The wire count is right.

Update on a few parts.
Muffler won't fit. Bends are wrong.
Front fork tube diameter is 35.9 mm. TW-32.9 mm. Axle bolt is slightly smaller could be drilled and re-tapped for TW if someone wanted to convert. More travel, disc brake and drains. Not sure if triple tees would be a direct swap.
Kickstand will fit. About an inch longer.
CDI has same # of wires as my 99, but plugs are different.
