In some ways, the guardrail won. 75% of my right leg gone, multiple broken bones (many of which were compound and sticking out), a severe concussion, massive blood loss and 7 days of machines breathing for me. It was my worst nightmare coming true and I was helpless.

Despite the grief and unknown of how difficult things would be as a new fragile amputee, I fought back. I set big goals for myself and allowed myself to dream of getting back to the things I loved. The road back to what I knew as normality would never look the same again because now it was filled with so many beautiful opportunities.

I very quickly learned that doubt from others is the best motivator and failure is essential to success. I've since learned how to love deeply, to never judge anyone because it's a terrible trait and to enjoy every moment as though it may be my last.

If I can give any advice from my lessons learned, it would be to not wait for tragedy to strike to live it up. If you don't like your life, simple.. Change it. If you dream of bigger things, simple.. Achieve them. And when you feel like give up, keep pushing! The road to victory will have it's up and downs but it's an incredible journey so don't forget to thank everyone who played a role in making it happen and to soak it all in!
