One thing I just don't get about the hollow mods and such... Why put the exhaust pipe under the bike EVERY time? Even on tw's. Seems it would limit off-roading completely unless these are some sort of super armored pipes (which would still bang the crap out of the engine).

Because they never intend to take them off the street. That pipe would'nt make it an hour on the trails I ride. Look to the rear tires on these bikes and that will give you the answer you seek.
