Probably not a bad thread to resurrect. I just fitted a Clarke XT225 4.1 gallon today:



Quite a bit taller than the stocker:

It actually slid right on and the handlebars cleared fine, but the bottom of the fork clamps hit when turning as well as the brake cable holder. The seat also didn't fit right:

The brake cable holder I just removed and used the top one (backwards I think):

To clear the clamps I moved the tank backwards by re-drilling the aluminum plate holes. To keep the tank up (left valve cover is a contact point) I spaced the rubber mount up with a few washers:

Seems to be working, the clamps clear and there is still clearance on the valve cover:

For the seat I tried just cutting the ribs underneath to allow it to bend, but that wasn't enough so I pulled some staples and cut the plastic under the vinyl:

Bends easy now, and I stapled it back up so the vinyl is uncut.

My left sidepanel was broken, so I like the Clarke on it's own, no unfilled hole:

On the right side it has to be kept, I cut a bit of the angle brace but it doesn't fit that well.

Still, I think it's going to be good.

dude that looks great. the short handlebars, round headlight, and the tall tank, work well together. what type of handlebars are those and where did you get them if you dont mind me asking. i want some my self.

Think so. They were on the bike when I bought it in April anyway.

I'm thinking that the new tank being so much taller (almost double) makes the bars look short.



Anyway, thanks for the compliments and I'm relieved the tank is working out so far. SpudRider had a great writeup about fitting it to his Zongshen, I was really hoping it would fit the TW as well.

they didnt appear to have the cross bar tht most have and i guess with the round head light and tank they just match perfectly. i guess i will have to get me one of those tanks and round headlights.

That twtex thread is mine. I've made a couple changes. See how the bottom of the tank slopes down to the front in the last picture? I modified the rubber biscuits to sit higher and rearward to lift the front of the tank. This means more fuel before running out. On the trip that the picture of the bike all loaded was taken I rolled into Marfa and filled up with 4.1 gallons. The Clarke XT350 tank is 4.0 gallons, supposedly.

So how did you raise the biscuits? Just drill an offset hole and screw them in place so they don't roll ahead?

I drilled holes in the posts sticking out the sides of the frame about 45* up and towards the back, threaded the holes, and screwed in some hex-head bolts. The holes in the biscuits were elongated with a sanding drum and Dremel, and fit over the bolts heads and stock posts. Total relocation was maybe 1cm, but that makes a huge difference in fit.
