Well, I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, but I'm going to ask!

Has anyone used Amsoil in the T-DUB's? I've seen and have been told that you could develope a base gasket leak, but I'm not sure! I want to change my oil here, but not sure if I can or should a full synthetic oil!

I thought that might get me a response like that! LOL

I think I'm going to stay with the reccomended 10W-30 dino oil and just ride! I'll change it more often and I should be good.

I do handyman work here in my retirement community. About six months ago, I got called to do a job for a fellow via a personal referrel. In talking with the gentleman, I found out that he was among other things, an engineer for Amsoil. He told me that he was the guy that developed the 0W oil for them. I had to ask him if Amsoil was worth the money and he didn't hesitate to say yes. He also didn't hesitate to say that it was only worth the money if you actually ran it for extended oil change intervals. He had nothing good to say about Shell Oil, but spoke highly of Castrol. He also implied that Mobil were copy cats. That's how I remember the conversation however, CRS may be messing with me as I'm getting kind of old. I would give his name, but I don't think I should without his permission.

Here's my two cents worth. As I understand it, dino oil has better cleaning properties and therefore gets dirty faster. Synthetic oil has better lubing properties, but doesn't clean as well, therefore stays cleaner longer. That is why I use a combination oil or part-synthetic oil. I use Castrol Actevo X-tra 10-40 or 20-50 depending. I believe I get the best of both worlds and still change oil around 2k miles. Its expensive oil, but it only takes a quart or so. So really, it doesn't cost that much.

I use Amsoil(10w-40 motorcycle specific oil)....good stuff, cooler running, smoother shifting etc, etc, etc,.I beleive synthetic oil does clean better.....not my observation......from articles / test I've read over the years. As for the base gasket leak, this usually happens to older engines that have been using Dino oil their entire life......the synthetic cleans away the deposits the Dino has left behind.....synthetic has better flow characteristics.

I run Amsoil in both of our 06 TW's. I have a base gasket leak, D does not. 50/50?

There is a ton of hype and opinion floating around, your just going to have to make up your own mind and run what your comfortable with.

Let me ask you this, do you wear cheap shoes and change them often?
