And Is it really worth the extra cabbage?

I am looking to do just one more upgrade! Ha ha yeah, right.

Hey guys I am upgrading my headlight to one of the JNS Engineering kits. I wanted to see if any members have compared the standard JNS Engineering TW200 DOT LED Headlight at $129.00 to the JNS Engineering TW200 Morimoto LED Headlight coming in at whopping $329.00? I see the difference in voltage between the two and understand those benefits. Mainly curious about the brightness and illumination factor and the real possibility of not needing to add additional LED pods.

I’ve got one of Tach-Industries on order
I’ve got a non-DOTJNS on one of mine and I don’t like it at all.

No, but both units look like quality investments.
I've been pleased with under $30 LED H4 replacements coupled with under $30 pencil beam pods for my after hours singletrackery. If one should ever fail I like the redundancy of having the other set of lights to get me out of the woods safely.

I only have experience with the DOT JNS but I'm very pleased with it. Frankly, I am glad I didn't get the Morimoto because I just can't imagine it being over 2x better, given that DOT standards limit glare (common issue for LED replacements) and the non-M one is already pretty bright. If you're looking to do night off-road riding you'll of course need aux lights too (because DOT standards limit side beam spread...)

I have the Morimoto one. I'm really happy with it, but it was expensive, so not for everyone. My main concern when switching to LED was to select a light that doesn't blind oncoming traffic, so the DOT rating was a requirement. Note, JNS now sells a Baja Designs kit. They are the best LED lights on the market, but I don't think it's a DOT rated lamp.

EDIT: original comment deleted as I now see older thread and reviews substantiating a claim of "best".

Hey TJet: Then you are just the guy I need to ask a few questions if I could ….
The JNS Morimoto doesn’t mention DOT, however it does mention “features a proper upper cut-off (Left Hand Drive, ie USA)”. Does it actually have any DOT markings on it? If not, is it safe to say it will pass, that is without blinding oncoming traffic? Don’t want to get a ticket on the way to the woods, then have to pull it and purchase the DOT model.
Thanks

While 2 years old that video makes a good comparison with the Merimoto the best of those tested at the time based on reasonable real world criteria. (y)

I have a cyclops replacement bulb with the stock lens. I am totally happy with my setup as well. Like Fred i have led pods as well that i run. I just recently replaced those with some brighter ones, the ones got are Denali s4's with a datadim controller. That are 6000 lumens with the high beams on and 3000 if i run with with low beams. Haven't ridden them much yet but i will. My only concern is if i leave them on on low bean it may be too bright coming the other way. I have rigged them so they will turn on any time the high beans are on and only if the the switch is turned on on low. We will see how it works out.

You're right. I just checked the website, no DOT codes, but they are ECE certified (European). Note, E-code headlight patterns are much better than DOT patterns. My issue with blinding oncoming traffic is that I absolutely hate the $15 bluish Chinese LED replacement bulbs everyone likes to use in their car, truck, motorcycle. They are dangerous, and they really don't work at that well. Also, blue is the wrong color temp to see things in. The Morimoto headlight is more of a pure white color, and the pattern in low beam will not blind oncoming traffic (or that State Trooper waiting for you to come out of the woods)

I marked up a Morimoto lamp with the codes explained

They look nice but no,save the cabbage. The stock lie at night in the woods or on a trail is really good.At night you are looking more at what is in front of you and where the tire is headed not a 1/4 mime down the road and hopefully driving at a slower speed .The stock lite is a lot less likely to fail out there in the dark then the others I think..But they are nice I have to say
