REPEAT: Are the any of the 2016 Honda CB500X-ABS models in showrooms yet? :smileinbox:

Been wanting to sit on one since I missed the Long Beach Motorcycle Show...

They will probably be so few and far between you may want to call around and see when they're expected, so you can at least sit on it before the owner that has already put a deposit on it, takes it away.

Since you're in SoCal, check out Chaparral Racing in San Bernardino... the place is f'ing HUGE (bigger than a Super Walmart); they'll probably have one soon if they don't already.

What Rob said. In previous years there just haven't been that many ABS models brought in to the US. I am one of many people over on the CB500X forum who gave up looking for one and just bought a non-ABS model. I have read at least one report of dealers not even being willing to order the ABS bikes. Makes no sense to me, but there you go.

To be honest, I didn't even know pre-2016 Honda CB500X models came with ABS. The upgrades made to this bike in 2016 are the reason I have been watching for it: suspension upgrade with ajustability, LED lighting, shifter upgrade, gas tank increase and cap, etc... IMHO dealers in CA (USA) are stupid if they don't order the ABS model.

The 2016 tank isn't actually any bigger, that was a bit of early pre-release misinformation that was widely circulated. There are some nice upgrades though, which you mentioned above. Word is that the shifter upgrade should retrofit to the 1st gen bikes fairly easily, although I think the transmission shifts pretty smoothly as-is.

I'm with you on the ABS, there's no downside to having something that doesn't kick in until the rider has already screwed up. Soon Rally Raid will offer a switch to turn it off, too. Apparently the perception of the dealers is that they'll sell more of the less expensive non-ABS bikes, so that's what they order. Maybe that situation will be different with the 2016 bikes.

I will say though, the brakes on the CB500X are really excellent even without ABS. Very tractable and predictable, and relatively easy to keep from locking up even in a panic stop.

I believe the previous year model gas tank was 4.5, wasn't it? Which is why I kind of glaze over when I read " Fuel capacity has grown to 4.6 gallons".

Well, the "bigger tank!" news came out before the actual specs, and a measly 0.08 Gal increase just doesn't seem to warrant the marketing buzz. I suppose that one would be technically correct to state that the tank is bigger on the 2016 bikes, but it's not really a meaningful change.

And yes, they raised the base model price for 2016 but not the ABS model price so the price gap is lower now. Hopefully that will help increase orders/sales for the ABS bikes. At $500 more ABS was a worthwhile upgrade before, at $300 more it seems like a no-brainer.
