I had a hiking back pack mounted to my cycle rack for a couple years. That worked nicely for the most part. But when I loaded it up with 5 full MSR fuel bottles...well, it lasted for a good two hours of very harsh off road riding, bouncing all over the place, dropping the bike, etc. Then it ripped and the fuel bottles fell out on the trail (luckily I was able to go back and find them all in a few minutes after I noticed). Anyway, I want to buy a bag or case to mount on my cyclerack which will be well made, inexpensive, and strong enough to withstand a few pounds of fuel bouncing around in it violently for hours. Suggestions/recommendations will be appreciated!

That a tough one to answer. I mounted a fat max tool box on my older TW and so far it has held up to the abuse of the tough trails. However, everything inside it gets beat to heck in spite unless it is surrounded by foam. My bottle of aspirin is now a bottle of powdered aspirin, and a 1 pound bag of almonds with a opening that will only pass one almond at a time has all of the almonds perfectly distributed throughout the two separated levels of the box.
On my newer TW I've mounted one of those Tbags that were closed out and am hopeing that it won't do what yours has done.

I bought a pelican case also. It works well. I still need to put a bigger plate under the fender to stabilize it better, but it still works well.

I have been searching for something that is as large as the rack for quick runs to the grocery store. There are only a few options in the way of motorcycle luggage but this is one of a few. Because I mainly ride two up, I need something that will not protrude onto the seat. This one will cover the seat about 1.5". If you are'nt worried about that, this would be a great option

I have 3 Molle Main packs. I purchased 4 because they were cheaper in bulk. I will ship one to your door for 10.00.

The bags are as described in this post

Please send an email if you would like one and I will send a pay-pal invoice.

Thanks for all the responses people. I have the tourmaster cortech bag and have used it on my Ninja. I could try it on the DR but I don't really think it would hold up to the kind of abuse I put my bikes through off road. But still maybe a possibility? I've also been looking at Pelican cases.

RDM: That bag does interest me. I wonder though of the top would be able to hold several pounds of violently bouncing gear without breaking though/tearing? How secure does the top of that pack seem - like it could hold up to sustained hard abuse with several pounds of fuel in bottles bouncing around? Also I think (have to double check) the DR rack (what I need the bag for) is slightly smaller than the one on the TW. Let me check on the size of the DR rack and I'll get back to you.

I think you would have a hard time tearing the pack without a knife or really sharp object. It is definitely made of heavier material than my Osprey backpack.

The bag has two draw strings pictured below, and the flap buckles over the drawstrings.

You can tension the flap as well.

I have one about 40% stuffed in the picture below. You should be able to tighten the straps on the bag to secure your load.

I bought one of those emgo brand trunks.

The baseplate fits the factory rack well enough

Pros: comes with a baseplate, locking lid, relatively waterproof, lock also integrates into the baseplate quick release, cheap (65 bucks on ebay shipped), easy to mount with included hardware, fits a full face helmet.

Cons: not as cool as an ammobox or pelican case style, not anywhere near as strong as a pelican case- especially the lock hasp area... But parts are available

The price, parts availability and ease of install sold me.

I also felt a little better not having a super stiff box behind me if i should go off the back... The box might just cut me some slack there if need be- especially as it lacks sharp edges

RDM: I guess I was wrong. The part of the racks where you would attach luggage or whatever is the same size on both the TW and the DR, roughly 11 by 19 inches. Based on the pictures of that bag, it appears to have about an 18 inch width and an 18 inch height. Might be a couple inches bigger than what I want. But heck, for ten bucks, I'll take it. If it works out well and I like it, I might even buy another one from you if you have a couple. I assume I can pay you with PayPal?

EDIT: Ok sorry I just went back and read your other post. I will email you now. Thanks.

Awesome RDM. Thank you so much. Can't wait to get this and try it out with my MSR fuel bottles!
