Base gasket leaking

I am considering the purchase of a 2009 TW200 with 1800 miles on it (seller says these are all street miles). I have been reading on this forum about the problem with bad base gaskets on these bikes until the 2010 model year. Any ideas out there on about what percentage of the pre-2010 bikes have had problems? How much should I be worried about this happening on this bike? There is also a 2010 available for $400 more than the 2009 which he is asking $2900 for. Are these fair prices for these bikes both in good condition? The 2010 was used in safety training and has 238 mi on it. One more question, I have seen some say here that the quality of 2000+ year model bikes has declined when compared to the TWs made in the 90's. How much of an issue is this? Thanks

I believe the base gasket issue was "resolved" by Yamaha several years ago.....don't remember the exact year though. I believe the early 2000 and PRIOR TW's are suspect to base leaks?.I do not believe the quality has erroded....they have improved....better electrical, front disc brake and I think Yamaha improved on the rear shock(there was an issue ...of some sort...and Yamaha made good on the existing bikes and they corrected the error for future bikes). $2900 for an 09 with 1800 miles...why are they being sold?....test ride them/it!. I would say $2500 for the 09....just my thought.
Thanks frog 13. This guy is convinced his bike is worth a lot. He has it listed on Craigslist for $3250 but told me his absolute lowest price is $2900 so I will wait for a more realistic person to buy from. What do you think the 2010 should sell for?
The 2010 is at a dealership with the mileage from motorcycle training classes - 238 mi and they want $3450. The 2009 is a private sale with 1800 mi for $2900. Either of those sound like a good deal (frog 13 had replied that $2500 would be more in line for this one)?
Thanks for the feedback everyone
