i was having a play with the bike earlier, and having taken the battery off when i removed the airbox, and carb, i couldn't remeber which way round it went, ie -if the positive terminal should be connected to the wires on the left or right hand side of the bike?

so i guessed, and think i broke something!

i connected the positive termial 1st, then the negative, which sparked and something near the fuse went POP!

i have tried a new fuse but i'm getting no power going through the bike at all.

would putting the battery on back to front have wiped it out?

sorry for the dumb questions but i have never worked on a bike at all before so am learning as i go.

cheers

Oh wow. Sounds like your starter relay went out, possibly. Is there a clicking noise when you try the electric start? If you have a kickstart, give it a try. Make sure you have a good fuse of the right value in there. You can't just use any fuse and expect it to work long.

For future reference, the red cable goes to the positive (+) post on the battery and the black goes to the negative (-).

I changed the fuse like for like, but no clicking when i try the electric start. unfortunately i dont have a kickstart, and also the cables are both black, i did check as i know the red is + and black is -

if the starter relay is gone, is it repairable or just need to buy a new one?

cheers

You'd probably have to buy a new one. A quick and dirty way of testing it is to short it out with a screwdriver. It should have two posts on it, so turn the key on and short them with a piece of metal (screwdriver) making sure not to shock yourself. If the starter turns when you do that, you need a new one.

EDIT: Before you get into that, do the lights come on when you turn the key?

I dont have any lights at the moment, everything is stripped off, will check the battery at work tmw and charge it if its dead.

pretty sure i connected the battery up the wrong way round looking at the manual.
