I would like to get some opinions on what the best O-Ring chain brand is? I am going to need a new chain once I start riding everyday again this year and I think I am going to go with the O-Ring style so I can hopefully get a longer life out of it.

My current sprocket setup it 15/50 so I think I need either the 122 or 124 chain length but I am concidering the 15/47 sprocket setup and would like to get some opinions on this too. I know it has been asked before but I would like to know how some of the street riders on here like it. I ride 98% street and would like to quiet my ride down at top speed but I am not sure how sluggish it will make it in the lower gears.

Any advice and input is appreciated.

If your in Orange then there are hills. The 15/47 will be too tall unless your light in weight. I went with 15/50. Gained some topend with little loss of lowend. Also your close to RT33 that goes to Skyline Drive. Lucky Dog!!

Are you sure you have the 15t front sprocket?????????? If it's a 14 then the chain will be 122links for the 14/50 and 120 links for the 14/47......... Just wondering. (o; OMM.

I can use the same chain for 14/50 and 14/55.

With 14/50 the wheel is adjusted back and 14/55 it is near the front. I think a one tooth difference on the front or rear sprocket would make hardly any difference adjustment / chain slack wise.

Here's a chain length calculator. Just enter a known combination (14/50/122) in the "current" fields and then enter the desired sprocket combo in the "new" fields and it will give you the length chain needed. This is optimal and length could be a few links either way if you want to have the adjuster more forward or rearward.

Optimal for your 15/50 is 124 but I'm sure people are running a 122 link. I went with 15/49 to keep a 122.

I used to live in culpeper and would take 522 out to skyline drive, its such a nice drive. I now live in Orange and take 522 out to culpeper for work, so I do have some hills. I weight around 160 so I dont know if 15/47 would be a good choice or not. I like the idea of quieting the engine down some more but I dont want to loose all my torque in the lower gears. I changed to the 15/50 combo last year and it has was great when I lived 2 miles from work but now I am 20 miles and it puts some strain on it a bit...

Thanks for the info guys especially the link to the chain length calculator.I bookmarked it for future reference.

I have a big trip planned for the T-Dub this summer and thought the 15/50 would help the engine breath a bit better at speed but still be ok off road.

This forum and the helpfull members on it rock.

I just ordered the D.I.D. x-ring chain. I've only got 7,500 miles on my bike and this will be its third chain. The stock chain and the one I replaced it with were absolutely terrible, so I spent $75 on the D.I.D. hoping I can get at least 10k+ miles out of it! I'll buy the sprockets after this next paycheck and probably replace them next month. I'll let y'all know how I'm liking it.

Sounds good mattmus4357.....what brand of sprockets are you going to use?. I'm wanting to stay with 14/50,but starting to look at brand's of chain and sprockets....know what I mean. I've also read some about o-ring chains and how they "take away" some performance due to their construction and the like. Have you noticed any BIG difference in the TW with o-ring chain used?. TIA

I used JT sprockets when I put the last chain on, I'm going to use them again this time. They've held up relatively well with the crappy chain and should do much better with the o-ring chain. The big reason I like the x-ring concept is it reduces the friction over a traditional o-ring chain.

I've had great success with DID O-Ring/X-Ring chains. Almost 22k miles on the 530 X-Ring on my CB900 and it's got plenty of life left. I should easily get at least 30k, I could probably get 40-50 if I wanted to really push it but I'll probably change it with the sprockets at 30 just to smooth out any wear and tear that has occured.
