I want to order one of these Bighorn rear tires for my T-dub. I live in Washington State and I will want to make the bike street legal this spring. Do I need D.O.T. approved tires for the bike to be street legal? I do not have a motorcycle endorsement yet so I will have to take the test. I am curious if anybody here in Wa state would know if I will run into any problems getting the bike licensed with that rear tire. Thanks,

Non-DOT tires are not approved for highway use and will not pass inspection, if the inspector cares to look, which often isn't a problem.

Update, I just went to the licensing dept at lunch and transferred the title and got my orv tags and the street tabs and a new plate so I may not have to get the bike inspected. Also are there any complications on may encounter in mounting the Bighorn on the rim? I work across the street from a tire shop so if it is straight forward they shpuld have no problem mounting it.

Read the ATV tire thread and search the forum. There is a lot you need to know before you mount one, and most legit tire outfits won't be willing to go along with overpressuring a tire to get it on a rim for liability reasons. You may have to do it yourself.

It's a hell of a wrestling match, but if you can change a stock tire you can get it done.

You probably won't get hassled, but you never know. I have stayed with the stock rear because I don't want any problems. For instance, I rear end someone and the police say, "Oh, he couldn't stop because his tire was not DOT approved." I just don't want the trouble. Others have used non-DOT tires and have been fine, so you do what you think is best.

You didn't need to buy ORV tags, your license tabs are good for offroad too. You might want to buy a Discover Pass. Its 30 dollars plus fees and you can buy them wherever hunting licenses are sold. The guys that have ORV tags and are not street legal do not need a Discover Pass, but because your bike IS street legal, you need the pass for State Parks, WDFW, and DNR land. You will get in trouble if you don't have one.
