Hello,

Once again I need to come to the experts for a bit of help.

My 94 TW appears to have some cam chain slap going on and I was wondering what the method of adjusting it is. I tried to do a search for this on the site but was unable to obtain anything when putting "cam chain" into the search field.

Thanks again,

Frank

Sounds like you need a new chain. TWs have automatic chain tensioners. Long story short, check to make sure your tensioner is working. If it is, then its just time for a new chain.

Thanks for the info, going to work on it this weekend and I'll report back my success.

You're screwing the adjuster in and out as needed until the little center stem is just slightly below flush with the adjuster nut. On my 92, it was somewhere over 3/8 down in the hole after 3300 miles, but it had plenty of adjustment to get it within spec and now the engine is a lot quieter.

My apologies. My assumptions have once again made an ass of me. What year was the automatic chain tensioner added to the tw?

The "automatic" adjuster does not relieve the need to adjust the cam chain. The newer adjuster sets the proper tension automatically when it works right. It does not compensate for wear without human intervention.
