Hi, folks - I'm a new TW owner as of 27 Dec, and have a couple of question for the experts:

What's the procedure for adjusting cam chain tension?

There's a metal bracket mounted under the bike between the back of the crankcase and the front of the swingarm on a cross brace. It has a tubing barb on it, but the metal "tube" appears to be solid. What in the world is it, and what is its function? I believe it had a short piece of plastic tubing on it, about 2" long, that didn't connect to anything else. I think I knocked it off while wiping excess grease off after greasing the swingarm.

Several searches in this forum haven't yielded any help.

Thanks in advance!

The j-tube is for the carb vent. It's supposed to have another piece of tubing on the south end of it, but no one's ever seen one cuz they fall off 10 miles from the showroom. Without it the j-tube traps water and causes stalling. I ditch it and end the vent tube a few inches above it, in the motor's wake.

Thanks - I'll have to have a look at my vent tube. Not sure where it is right now!

You can also adjust the tensioner with the engine running - this way you will see the rod moving in and out, you can adjust it so that you can feel it with your finger.

Thanks - downloaded the maintenance manual and got it done with no problems. Also checked valve lash, but the bike has only 1350 miles on it, and no adjustment was necessary. Rough idle and inconsistent idle speed is still an issue. I'm running some sea foam in the gas and this has helped, but I think I'll end up pulling the carb and inspecting it.
