If you like a nice 3 to 7 day long party and happen to be in Rio February 21st - 29th may I recommend attending, or participating in the Sambadrome's competition between various Samba schools funded by the local favelas and their drug lords.?
You can be just a spectator, or buy a costume and join one of the schools and dance, dance, dance! Good luck getting some of the costumes in your luggage to fly home with, although some are fairly skimpy.
Each competing "parade" is a many thousands strong and take an hour or two to dance past, thus takes several consecutive nights. Floats and costumes are world class. When a thousand drummers are pounding out the same beat you really feel it. These are no Macy's Parades for sure.
I was good for only one night, not really used to partying 'till dawn with 2 million others.
Here are some highlights of competing schools in what loosely translates into"releasing the chicken".

It can be hard to sleep during the day as the bataria teams practice their percussion in the days leading up to, during, and after the event on the city's streets. During actual parades every couple hundred of meters there will be several hundred percussionists all in sync with other matching drummer groups along each team's kilometer or longer presentation. This takes practice but the result is visceral.
