Anyone use the inexpensive SS footpegs found on eBay or Amazon? They have a distinctive chevron pattern instead of grid or offset grid. Anyone know what grade of alloy they are? I might take them in to work and check the metallurgy with XRF analysis if I buy them. I hesitate because cheap castings can be porous or have inclusions.

I'm open to other ideas as well. Don't want cast aluminum, and for some reason, shipping to Canada seems to be exorbitant for motorcycle parts from the States. So IMS are out too.

I may be wrong but I do believe there was just a recent post from someone who got them, had to drill and file a bit but did like them.. best to search for the thread.

The stock Yamaha peg springs are identical for both sides which means the insertion for the spring stop is different for each side. Ie low side for left and high side for the right. The aftermarket springs are mirror image which means I had to drill an extra hole on the right side to insert the spring end. No big deal if you have a drill. Also there is a hump on the center that prevents the peg from retracting in case yo7 hit something. It needs to be ground down a bit. So far I’ve just ridden it around town. I’ll take it off road this weekend and and repot back. It also a bonus that the through bolts fits for my mx hitch hauler.

I tried some similar or identical. They are Chinese and sold under several brand names. I didn't like them, too much grinding and drilling when I can get these steel ones for less and only have to drill one hole and use the original pins:

Good find. Same for shipping. Those pegs should work fine.
While the IMS pegs are stout I have found the left side peg bracket typically has to resist more bending, twisting and gouging insults than the top rated IMS peg it supports.
Anyone have a spare or salvaged foot peg bracket? Boss Bear is betting I can't straighten it

~15 degree bend and ~10 degree twist are uncomfortable underfoot. Gouges are just souvenirs.

Turns out they are drop shipped from China. That's why the shipping was only $4.

This Canadian site is currently out of stock but I bought mine here and had them in a couple days and shipping was cheap.

Which site and which foot pegs?

I have ordered twice from FortNine. I know of Twisted Throttle, Gnarlyparts, and DualSportPlus.

Just ordered some Super Sherpa parts from Partzilla in the States.

Always looking for new Canadian bike part vendors.

I have no reason to think that those SS Chinese pegs are not as strong as regular steel, my beef was with the amount of hassle. HOWEVER, I do not believe that this method of tiedown is particularly smart. I want some give in my tiedowns. Going over a whoop-dee-do that you did not see in time at speed can easily subject the tiedowns to 2 or 3 times the weight of the bike. That is close to 1,000 lbs! Don't ask me how I know that. :eek:
I'm not a fan of the MX Hauler or any similar small platform type carrier. I want something STRONG that will distribute the weight of the bike over a much larger area!!!! 40,000 miles of carrying the TW all over the West taught me that.

My first VersaHaul VH-55did exactly that, but even it could not withstand rolling twice at 60mph down a 40 foot embankment. That is probably around ten or 15G's! :eek: Snapped all four 4,000 lb. tiedowns and bent the carrier into a pretzel!

I bought a new one. :)

Kermit, non-destructive resonance and magna-flux testing for inclusions is not cheap not quick. However the sledgehammer test is just a wack away.:p
Impact overloading might reveal any major critical imperfections in the castings. Smack and look for a crack. The MX Hualer clamps grab you bike fairly close to the brackets anyways. I have bent my MotoJack clamps but not the ductile IMS pegs that they grab.
I would not overthink the stainless steel strength issue, why not worry about shear strength of the critical clevis pin which is the peg pivot instead ?
