clicking clutch

i guess there really is a first for everything. never heard a clutch do this befor. with the bike not running if i pull in the clutch i can hear the clutch making a clicking sound.the click is coming from the left side of engine. it happens when the clutch lever is pulled in about a half inch. cant really tell if it happens when bike is running cause i cant hear it over the normal engine volume. even with the clutch cable tight or loose it still makes the click at the same volume, and at the same place. before there was no noise when i pulled in the clutch, very quiet.i plan on replacing the clutch disc's and springs this winter but thats still a ways away.
