Hi there- the wife's TW has been going strong for a year and a half now ...

last week on a trip out she confessed/ reminded me - that she hadnt been checking the oil - or tyre pressures for a while! so we have a look - and sure enough need air - and the oil has gone totally from the view finder!

so we are at a garage and top up with a 10/40 or 15 /40sw

seemed fine at first - but now 2 weeks later she's haveing a bit of clutch slip - I adjusted it - needed to go to the bottom adjuster on the engine casing - and its much better..

but she still thinks its slipping in 4th or 5th..

I'm guessing the oil hasnt agreed with the clutch plates?

course of action?

will changing the oil help? to be honest its due an oil change - as she has been commuting daily on it for 3-4 months now... whilst before it was more a weekend leisure thing..

feel bad cos i didnt look after it/her -

I think I will have to write in her dairy to take more care of it! ( or remind me too!

If you added oil that is labeled "energy conserving" or "fuel saving" or some such you've found your culprit.

Oils are so specialized these days it's stupid not to spend the extra dollar or two for one specifically blended for motorcycles with wet clutches.

yep! agreed ! it was a silly spur of the moment thing - on a garage forecourt and heck! no oil at all! better get some in..

I just bought 4 Liters of a motorbike oil - which mentions better friction for clutches -..

so I think I will drain whats in there - and put this in for a week- then change it next week - along with the oil filter.........

doing some searches now,,
