HI, does anyone know if a 95 or a 93 crankcase will fit on my 2002?

Yes. And the base gaskets probably won't leak anymore.

All identical, '87-present.

Use matched pairs, just to be safe. Mismatching could lead to differences in alignment, depending on how Yamaha approches its finish machining on the castings.

lizrdbrth,

The leaky part of the bike often came from the sprocket drive shaft oil seal. Yamaha miss milled the opening to small for the oil seal and the seal was often damaged on installation, as mine was by the factory in 1994. A hard to find leak and can look like the base gaskets. Just a thought. I used a piece of PVC with 600 grit paper tapped to the end and slowly honed it out.

Handy info, Ronny.

Thanks.

We oughta start a thread on oil leaks. Though base gaskets are definitely a problem, it seems like quite a few have replaced them only to find the leak was actually somewhere else. On these older motors I've not found the base gaskets to be a problem.
