Can't wait!

Who loves watching the Dakar Rally? I know there are a few of us at least who do... :)

The skill level of dune crossing, the ability to navigate without detours in open terrain and the indispensable physical strength to battle in the massive sandy sectors will be the criteria to fulfil for the title contenders. In the motorcycle category, the indestructible KTMs of Walkner, Price and Sunderland will, once again, take on the Hondas of Benavides, Gonçalves and Barreda as well as the Yamahas of Van Beveren and De Soultrait. In the car class, the former Peugeot stars have moved to Mini, where Sainz, Peterhansel and Despres will join Roma, Przygonski and Terranova, while Loeb will be in a privateer Peugeot entered by PH Sport. They will face stiff competition from the Toyotas of Al Attiyah, De Villiers and Ten Brinke, in the largest car field since 2015. In the truck division, the favourites from Kamaz should face their rivals from Team De Rooy, led by Gerard De Rooy, who returns after a one-year absence.

I miss the real Paris-to-Dakar rallye.
Back before the current hundreds of millins of sponsorship dollars, ten of thousands of spectators, thousands of vendors, hundreds of doctors and dozens of helicopters one would roll out of Paris and make one’s way to Gilbrator, cross to Africa and then you were pretty much on your own. No GPS, up to you to find your support teams. If you got lost, broke down, robbed by bedoins, or hit a land mine then you were still pretty much on your own.
It is a very different race today, just wish they would drop the Dakar name and African graphics and be true to the new South American venue. To finish the original rallye was more of an accomplishment than today’s events although the Chinese version retains much of the logistical challenges in unpopulated hinterlands far from any journalist’s hotel.
I am not critical of the event, the machinery nor the competitors, just the purloied name since the event, the machinery and the competetors by and large are quite different from the original european oriented event...It’s been americanized.

Funny, I always do that same exercise with the elastic-band around my head and treadmill before every ride in The Pines.
Don't you JJ? :)

And this year I get to watch the videos you post on a big screen. Big screen makes watching videos way better. Thanks again for continuing to post these as you have in the past.
