In truth, that is not Deception pass. That is Canoe Pass. Deception Pass is just to the left out of the picture.. I once wheelied the entire length of the bridge from Whidby Island to Fidalgo Island
back in 1979. That was before it began to sag.

Well, they _have_ been saying that America's bridges are in a sad state of repair... maybe those images from Open Maps (aka Apple Maps) isn't so inaccurate after all. ;)

It looks like a bridge I rode over while on LSD back in the 60's. ;)

Deception and many other bridges will be a thing of the past when the big one hits the west coast. We are way overdue. I have a hard time just taking a drive to the beach now days as when it hits, there is no place to go, will be a total wipe clean.

BTW, the tidal current under that bridge is sometimes in excess of 13 knots. I once went under that bridge driving a 65 foot tug pushing a 75 foot barge. We logged a speed between two observed points at 21 knots for that passage. The tugs' top speed with the barge was normally 9.5 knots. We were smoking past some of the whirl pools.
