Perhaps a telescopic kickstand would be useful.

Now that is a cool idea I hadn't thought of! If you see something like that around, let me know.

Questions for you:

1) Did you pull the original seat cover off first, or just staple the new one overtop?

2) How did you staple the new one on? I did some limited pulling and restapling when I put on the bigger tank, and found the underseat plastic very hard to staple to with a regular staple gun.

1) I pulled off the original first. I didn't want any issues with material bunching up.

2) To staple the new cover on I bought a cheap pneumatic stapler (with great reviews) called the Superbonder 9600 from Amazon. It's only $30 and did a great job. It is very tricky work though, and I can see why people might lean towards getting it done by a professional!

What's up Scott! There is one other VT'er in here, from Waterbury. Does your TW happen to be white with blue accents?

You will have to stop by Donny's one of these nights; I'm usually a fixture there once it warms up a bit. Look for the dubs or pearl Speed Triple and say hi!

Great update! looking good, I still can´t get used to the "big" front light )can´t get used to mine either) but somehow I really like that front fender and for the most part I don´t like that mod, even though I do see the huge advantage for muddy off road.

As far as the kickstand.

i came across one when I was looking for parts for my R6. This is one I found for a CBR:

Just to get an idea, at $150 for a kickstand... LOL!

besides for the powdercoat machine and stuff how much did everything cost?

Already posted this info on page 2, but here you go...

Sure, happy to share.

I kept a spreadsheet of all of my expenses (except for hours) and I've got $1,400 into the bike (including the cost of the bike).

A quick glance at that number. I paid $600 for the bike and then made $350 selling various plastics, headlight, speedometer, tires, etc. At that point I was into the bike for $250 before any parts were purchased.

The new parts ran me about $1,150.

There weren't many big expenses. Only two items, powder coating (frame + swing arm + tank = $175) and the exhaust pipe ($125), broke the $100 mark.

Most of the cost was spending $28 on a brake cable here, $50 on a tail light there, etc, etc.

I was really lucky to find a very good condition TW for such cheap money. It really made the entire project possible.

I can't really speculate about hours. This took me several months start to finish, but weeks would go by without me doing any work on it. It was the kind of thing I'd work on for a few hours on the weekend here or there. Maybe 40 hours are into it? That could be way off but it's a guess.

I don't actually know Frank Colver, but I think he would answer by saying "Because I can".

Twice.
