Ok, here is another question: has anyone made their own top box? I see the TW has a plate at the back with screws so I guess one could take a standard, lockable box (like a toolbox or similar), drill holes and attach (obviously sealing the holes with silicone or similar for rain)?

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Those three screws just screw into plastic, no support for a top box of any size.
Hey mojo,

r80rt is right, there is not a lot of support back there for carrying a lot of weight but I had a Pelican case mounted as you describe and it worked well for on road use and light loads. Here are the details on how I mounted my case (scroll down to post #36):

I have since added a rear Cyclerack and the Pelican case is now mounted rock solidly onto that rack.
