I would have put money on Chicago for #1. Flint, Michigan. Never would have guessed that.
Your Idiot Mayor Has Not Helped....trying to bring as many Illegals into Dayton as Possible, not that they won't bring crime and disease in as well, but all she cares about is "feeling good" and getting more undocumented Democrats to vote.....Most Dangerous Cities In America - Business Insider
Turns out I live in the 19 most dangerous city in the US. -_-

There are two obvious similarities in all of these cities....I will leave it to your imagination to figure them out.....They present this data without any analysis of possible causes for a higher degree of violent crimes in these cities. If someone could determine the cause of the problem plaguing these large cities maybe we could eliminate it.
Nope and sort of. Rust belt cities are bulldozing perfectly livable abandoned houses to prevent methheads, crackheads, heroin addicts, alcholics, drug dealers, child slavery goons, bums, and other undesirables from squatting. Abandoned houses can be bought by the hundreds off the delinquent tax rolls for $1. This is the result of unions making American automakers uncompetitive.Crowding and high unemployment.
...Couldn't it be high unemployment and poverty that drives these people toward drugs and the violence associated with the drug culture?
So you agree that the unions and democrats are fully responsible for the higher than average violence in all of our inner cities. If we accept that as the problem then we should destroy the unions and elect only republicans and the violence will disappear?
I spent twenty years teaching Criminal Justice and Criminology in a well respected college. There are no simple answers to crime and it's causes. Interestingly each of you have introduced valid points. Poverty, deterioration of former social values as well as the break down of the holy trinity of social training Church, school and the family contribute. But actually so does immigration in that different cultures value things differently so you have a cultural clash as well. The most peaceful societies are those that are most homogenous. But there is a price to pay for that as well.
Crime trends upwards during times of economic decline and uncertainty. Demographics play a role in that the more 18-30 year olds there are the higher the crime rate. Periods of low rates corresponded to post WWI and WWII population decline in this age group as they are the most crime prone. The comment that the research falls short of supporting one view or another is certainly correct. One thing is for sure, crime is complicated and is influenced by many social factors which is why mayors and governors and even presidents can't change it significantly. Oh and the more freedoms accorded a society the more crime and social dysfunction exists. When the USSR was in it's hey day crime rates were very low in Mother Russia and the satellite countries. When the wall fell crime went way the hell up.
Fully, mostly, partially, whatever. Get rid of government and put nothing but the business owners and land barons running the show and will that end the poverty, unemployment, and drug use that afflicts these people? BTW your last sentence makes me shudder at what a republican controlled world might look like. Very scary words you chose.
And that is exactly why the Republic will eventually fail....I look outside and see a Rental with 9 kids living in there with Zero Adults....the Human Service Clowns come once a month, and usually nobody answers the door....meanwhile successful kids like my two sons, will have exactly 2 children between them...Why? Well ONE is not going to have any....because he sees what is happening....son #2 with Masters and running his own business and his Law Schooled Wife both with great incomes, still have to pay their own insurance and day care....and cannot really afford more...they could but at what cost? It's culture. Fill a city with a dependant class culture that does not value work or parenting and this is what you get. The real bad news is the responsible people usually have 2 kids. Those that can't afford one kid have 5.
