When I was last in Flint (2003 Corvette 50th Anniversary), it was darn near vacant. I'm sure by now, without anyone in office not looking to fill their pockets, raping the city for all it is worth and then some, the place should be a full fledged shithole.

I would have put money on Chicago for #1. Flint, Michigan. Never would have guessed that.

When you read it the way you wrote it, spelled out clearly, how can there be any way that these freaken politicians are allowed to get away with this crap?

They are called ILLEGAL ALIENS because they do not belong here. They suck at the teat of our goodwill and utilize our resources without contribution. And they act as if they are ENTITLED. I run into these sorts quite often. Failing to even dare learn to speak English.
I report all I find hidden in apartments and basements.

My country can be strong again.

This was a problem 40 years ago, and nothing was done, the complainers were referred as "haters". The chickens of disease and poverty have come home to roost.

Like the scourge that they are, they should be rounded up and returned. That right there would create some jobs.

Hate me all you want. This is true.

Your Idiot Mayor Has Not Helped....trying to bring as many Illegals into Dayton as Possible, not that they won't bring crime and disease in as well, but all she cares about is "feeling good" and getting more undocumented Democrats to vote.....

They present this data without any analysis of possible causes for a higher degree of violent crimes in these cities. If someone could determine the cause of the problem plaguing these large cities maybe we could eliminate it.
There are two obvious similarities in all of these cities....I will leave it to your imagination to figure them out.....

Crowding and high unemployment.
Nope and sort of. Rust belt cities are bulldozing perfectly livable abandoned houses to prevent methheads, crackheads, heroin addicts, alcholics, drug dealers, child slavery goons, bums, and other undesirables from squatting. Abandoned houses can be bought by the hundreds off the delinquent tax rolls for $1. This is the result of unions making American automakers uncompetitive.

I wonder when was the last time any of these top 25 had a conservative mayor?

No.

The aforementioned "TAKERS", took all they could and voted in like minded TAKERS to take everything that wasn't nailed down. The unions not giving an inch is what caused the jobs to go away.

You reap what you sow.

Nothing begets nothing.

You can't just say "high unemployment" without going to the cause of the unemployment. As long as the beaurocrats had their pockets filled, there was no care for the underhandedness that ensued.

The city gave till there was no more to give, then it gave some more.

...Couldn't it be high unemployment and poverty that drives these people toward drugs and the violence associated with the drug culture?

"So you think unions, democrat mayors and drugs are what is causing the higher than average violent crimes in our inner cities"?

Let's See.............YES! These folks were given the original freebies by Lyndon Baines Johnson...and he basically trashed the entire population in an effort to get them to Vote Democrat....read some of LBJ's quotes....he was the WORST President since FDR and only the current clown comes close to what that bastard did to the Republic...

I mentioned unions. You mentioned them and democrats. And YOU used the word "fully". Don't put words on my keyboard. Rhetoric will not hide the truth. The incumbent politicians that encourage people to vote for free cheese and cell phones, along with the unions, caused the clustermess that is there today.

Could it have been republicans with an agenda? Sure. It could also have been aliens from another galaxy.

Republicans are probably just as capable of screwing things up. Politicians are their own problem.

Less government. No career politicians. Any deviance from a solid code of ethics punishable by death, etc. etc.

So you agree that the unions and democrats are fully responsible for the higher than average violence in all of our inner cities. If we accept that as the problem then we should destroy the unions and elect only republicans and the violence will disappear?

I spent twenty years teaching Criminal Justice and Criminology in a well respected college. There are no simple answers to crime and it's causes. Interestingly each of you have introduced valid points. Poverty, deterioration of former social values as well as the break down of the holy trinity of social training Church, school and the family contribute. But actually so does immigration in that different cultures value things differently so you have a cultural clash as well. The most peaceful societies are those that are most homogenous. But there is a price to pay for that as well.

Crime trends upwards during times of economic decline and uncertainty. Demographics play a role in that the more 18-30 year olds there are the higher the crime rate. Periods of low rates corresponded to post WWI and WWII population decline in this age group as they are the most crime prone. The comment that the research falls short of supporting one view or another is certainly correct. One thing is for sure, crime is complicated and is influenced by many social factors which is why mayors and governors and even presidents can't change it significantly. Oh and the more freedoms accorded a society the more crime and social dysfunction exists. When the USSR was in it's hey day crime rates were very low in Mother Russia and the satellite countries. When the wall fell crime went way the hell up.

Listen here Toma... If you are going to interject facts into this, how is it ever going to degenerate into a shouting match? :) :)

Thank you for your input.

Can't Argue with toma55's points...because they are correct...the more freedom and more "freebees"{handouts} the Government and Parents give to the kiddies...the more useless they become....nothing wrong with a good "Kick in the Ass" whether it be from parents or via Laws Enforced...the "Melting Pot" is over 200 years old.....and we have been lucky...that luck is about to run out, regardless of what happens in 2016.....

I'm no Republican, just a far right kind of guy, but I am a Christian, and one thing I figured out Long ago...if you are a left wing Socialist/Democrat, and claim to have Christian Values...you are full of **it.....take that for what it is worth....

The last sentence is called... humor. Oh goodness! No place for jokes when there is so much violence and starvation in our cities. :) :) (notice the smileys)

You extrapolate all these horrible things to happen. I said LESS government, not NO government. And where does all this stuff about business owners and land barons come rom? Some old black and white movie?

We actually mentioned nothing to FIX the problem, just EXPLAIN why there is a problem. Continuing on "because that's the way we've done it since LBJ" is just creating more and more strife.

What is it about the present situation that appeals to you? Are you a contractor that sells cheese or cell phones to the government?

Oh, for the record. When "land barons" and "business owners" are making money, the trickle down to the employees and tradespeople that provide services to them is better than the handouts given by the government. PLUS, When the aforementioned people pay their taxes, it helps to smooth the way for the truly needy.

Fully, mostly, partially, whatever. Get rid of government and put nothing but the business owners and land barons running the show and will that end the poverty, unemployment, and drug use that afflicts these people? BTW your last sentence makes me shudder at what a republican controlled world might look like. Very scary words you chose.

Here is an updated list from last week...Ice Man's list was from early 2013...I am sure differing factors are in place....but most have a common thread{s} and it doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure them out....so here is a Top 10....at #10 Newberg, New York??? Didn't see that coming....my mom's birth town of Chester, PA, in on the list, but there are lot's of changes since it was a working class Irish American city when she was born in 1924....3 Cities out of Michigan? Hardly a Surprise....yes, Michigan has some pristine places....but Saginaw, Flint, and Detroit, could be bombed and bullcozed and the US would consider it a favor....and East St. Louis, ILL is at the Top of the **it List....is anybody really surprised?

It's culture. Fill a city with a dependant class culture that does not value work or parenting and this is what you get. The real bad news is the responsible people usually have 2 kids. Those that can't afford one kid have 5.
And that is exactly why the Republic will eventually fail....I look outside and see a Rental with 9 kids living in there with Zero Adults....the Human Service Clowns come once a month, and usually nobody answers the door....meanwhile successful kids like my two sons, will have exactly 2 children between them...Why? Well ONE is not going to have any....because he sees what is happening....son #2 with Masters and running his own business and his Law Schooled Wife both with great incomes, still have to pay their own insurance and day care....and cannot really afford more...they could but at what cost?

Sadly the days of productive 2 parent families with 3, 4 6, Kids are gone...they are having 1, 2, or maybe 3....those sucking off the Nanny State Teeet....are popping them out or aborting them by the millions each and every year.....DISASTER in on the Horizon.....
