Whether re-stocked annually by hot spring volunteers or the goldfish somehow survive the deep freeze winters is unknown but we both had somehow heard the story. Told her about other "nearby' sights to see like pictographs in a cave, a dramatic but deadly geothermal vent, and the charmingly un-touristic but semi- intact ghost town of Belmont before before heading back to San Francisco. (Not my photos)

Belmont Heyday, Nye County seat in 1867 with some 2000 residents until mines closed in the 1880s.

Got a little sleepy for the next century.

Visited Belmont one winter day with about 4 " of fresh snow. Other than a couple renovating an old saloon into a bed and breakfast town seemed pretty deseerted.

Owner's cats decided standing on my feet was a good way to keep their paws out of the snow. Can't find the photos but remember afferctionate cats had seemingly big furry feet.
Couple was successful and now hosts the BELMONT MONITOR INN AND STEAKHOUSE.
