I joined here last year when I decided the TW200 was what I was going to want eventually, but I'm again thinking about them. Since a slight change is happening, I'm loosing free access to hay for the cutting, land ownership changed on the fields I've been keeping mowed for a hunting club, and new one wants money now. I either keep making hay and sell it to pay rent, or quit. Either way I can't keep feeding my horses until I get some pasture cleared and fenced on our own land. (which is not happening very fast) So I'm gonna have to find them new homes and get something else to get around the woods trails.
I'm a farmer and mechanic (behind a mountain back in the woods in middle TN USA) with some metal fabrication, small scale foundry and machining capability. Also done plenty of logging and sawmilling, done some building projects with wood, but I like playing with machines a lot better than fooling with wood. I like getting old machines and fixing them. Building new machines from scratch sometimes when I need something I can't buy for a reasonable price. Right now I'm rebuilding the transmission on a '68 Ford 3000 tractor I got for a bargain because it had broken gears in it. My portable arc welder I got for not much $$ with a broken piston rod in the 2 cylinder Onan engine, I melted the broken parts and recast them using the good one for a pattern, been using it ever since. Between that and growing good food part time is what I do, all the time, don't have a regular job away from home and likely never will. Looks like I'm fixin to set up my own small scale power plant and sell power to the power company for an income. If I can successfully develop that it'll give me my "retirement" just for maintaining the facilities, and free me for more extensive projects that have only been dreams so far. Although I never plan on doing anything remotely connected to retiring like is commonly done. There are too many interesting things to do to even think about it. Besides I'm just getting a good start on life at 47.
Not married, the only family I have is my brother and parents and 2 cousins trying to survive on our 80 acres, almost got a new house done for my folks who are 76 and 85. But I live in an old engineless motorhome (which I also use for an electronics shop) set up on blocks behind my big dirtfloored shop. Oh yah, forgot to mention I'm also into ham radio and work on various electronic projects at times, sometimes in connection with the IC engine projects. My accumulated knowledge and research into old and new inventions in electric motor, generator, IC and EC engine technology is what's led to the power plant idea. I'm currently working on a pll circuit for a different kind of experimental fuel cell. Sometimes I like to just get out and wander around the woods, being we have several thousand acres of timber company land around us. And I don't care for the normal 4 wheelers, not so good for the rough washed out and not so level mountain trails we have around here.
My idea for best function is a 4x4 cargo bed vehicle for farm utility use and a 2 wheeler for running around the trails, one that can get out on the road when the trail ends, which they have several places where they come out on the main roads, some of the ends are several miles through two gulfs over near town. Oh well, it's cold and spittin snow and I'm blowin time on the puter, so nuff said for now. It'll probably be a few months before I can get a TW200, gotta sell the horses and buy a powerline transformer first, but I'm totally convinced the time will come when I'll be getting one. (I know, it'll be hard to stop with one, my brother will probably want one too once I get going) One of my cousins has made arrangement to get a 4x4 4 wheeler soon that needs some repair. (that means cheap) So we'll all probably end up with something to get around on. And the other cousin is into bees, honeybees that is. He's just been here since last fall and he's fixin to set up a dizzy bizzy buzzy business. RT
