My childhood heartthrob passed away last week. I think Donna Douglas, former Miss New Orleans, ignited my interest in girls in her role as Elly May Clampet on the Beverly Hillbillies TV sitcom.

I will never forget lying in a hospital bed watching countless reruns of Gilligan's Island with a semi. Then out of nowhere, in comes the nurse to tend to me. 9 years old and soooo embarrassed! Funny now I suppose.

I was 9 and in a 3/4 body cast. I was run over by a car that ran a red light because the driver was busy with his daughter in the back seat. There were lots of nurses over my 5 month stay but only 1 candy stripper that I was slightly infatuated with. "Kelly" was sooo cute and she spent hours keeping me company. I remember playing checkers with her and letting her win I was on a morphine drip for several weeks and the above story about getting busted with a semi is 100% factual. The nurse never said a word she was a pro. I just got that sly smirk accompanied by a slight tilt of her head.

There is so much more to the story I want to share. Probably not as entertaining but looking back on this part of my life has really got me thinking. I will verify the facts as I remember them with my mother "morphine drip may cloud memories" and post my conclusions later.

That is a marketing ploy. I have a family member who works for a large pharmaceutical company (not Viagra) who says that statements like that will increase sales.....obviously.
