Went out for a longer ride this evening....sweet...I forgot how much I missed her!

Anyways, I need help in solving an issue. Nothing too serious (I hope)...but I've got a buzz. Between 40 and 42 mph (in 4th gear (cause there aren't any more)) there is a noise that sounds like a giant bumble bee, trapped and trying to get out.
Don't think it's anything engine or transmission-related (at least I sure HOPE not). I grabbed a couple of places here and there: Covered key slot on gas cap - Nope. Grabbed Renthal foam on bars - Nope. Tapped on headlight cowling - Nope.
Of course, there's only so much you can do when moving...in traffic, but when I got home I gave things a tap and a shake and couldn't find what it is.

Suggestions?

BTW...my TOP speed on this one is 68 mph...but she sounds like a blender at that speed. Might need to look into a 15T.

My muffler end cap was driving me crazy. It would rattle/vibrate/buzz at certain rpm/gears.

Heat shield bolt on my KLR's header pipe worked it's way loose and shield would buzz at certain RPM's. Took a month to find until a little brown rust was noticed running out from behind the bolt one day. If this helps??

It has been known that neighbor cats like to crawl up on engines and sleep on them when parked warm.....:smileinbox:

Potential loose top engine mount bolt. Had it happen once. Same sound at the gravel stone I found on top of the engine near the top motor mount as well. Weird things for sure. Good luck finding the buzzing culprit.

Oh yeah, the helmet lock on mine made some noise too. I just taped anything that looked "loose" and went for a ride.

I only had 2 fasteners holding my license plate at the top. My plate was vibrating causing a weird sound, something to check.

OK...all good ideas.
It sure sounds as though it's coming from the front...around the cowling somewhere but I realize that sound can get "telegraphed" from one end to the other.
Guess I'll have to spend a little time, sorting through things.

FWIW my key cover on the gas cap vibrates at certain RPM's so my quick fix was to stick a little circular .25" flat neodymium magnet on it. No more noise. Just slide the magnet to the side to insert the key.

OK, removed the helmet holder...checked under headlight cowling...checked both heat shield fasteners...checked all engine mounts...removed one rock jammed between starter and engine, found several small ones in various crevices...checked for articles stuck under skid plate...

My drive to work tomorrow will tell the tale.
