In case any vintage plane nuts are here I thought I'd post this up. We recently finished up the overhaul on our 1938 Continental A50-3 Up stack dry sump engine and I took a video of its first start up. The plane is a 1938 J3 "Sport Cub" and this is the original engine that it left the factory with. Being a "sport cub" and one of the first J3's this cub has quite a few small differences between it and the later cubs. It uses the early J2 airfoil, early style ailerons, Cathedral interior, etc....about 20 to 30 small differences in all.

Here's the first startup after overhaul.

Pretty nice.. Up, up and away with 50 horses.. Then again, I suspect your 'kite' has far less. Is that a club project, or something your family is into? Thanks, Gerry

My father got to fly just about everything the Army Air Corp. had in WW2. I remember him saying that of all the plane he had flown the J-3 Cub was still his favorite. Just a plain, simple, honest airplane.
