63 years old. Been riding 650 scooters. Bought a used TW200. Love the bike!

Going down the road past an abandoned subdivision development, and I thought, "Wonder what riding off road is like?"

I noticed the mud puddles, which I dodged. Finally, I decided to ride through one.

The mud came up over the engine, and I was stuck standing-up in the middle of a 20' wide mud pond. My feet didn't seem to be able to touch the bottom of the "pond."

I was a astraddle a wall or something, in a big mud hole. I was in shorts and tennis shoes.

I eventually got out, completely covered with mud from head to toe. The bike just stood by itself in the middle.

How dumb is it to want to try it again next week?

Funny, thanks for sharing, could have been worse though, the bike might have fallen over along with you. Yes that would have been worse. Reminds me of the time I was trying to drive my BMW up a ramp into a covered trailer. As I came to the top of the ramp I realized the I just might decapitate myself. Put my feet down, on air, and bike and I fell over. Fortunately I was wearing my helmet so no real damage other than a few bruises to both me and the bike. Now that was stupid.

Learned about the mud holes on atv's. Never went in one that bad, but wife did and it floated. When I got on it to get it out, it tipped.



The hole wasn't much wider than the atv. So I am very cautious of mud holes.



I have seen many times small ones are really deep.



Early on in riding I saw one that was about 8 feet in diameter, but about 4 feet deep. Kids would come out and go arond in circles making the hoe then when it rains it fills up.I saw people try to ride through, and they almost disappeared, so I became very cautious of mud holes from then on.

Haha, The TW brings out the kid in us! Why go around when you can go through? Hey you kids, stay out of the mudpuddles (ya right).

met a mudhole once in "gus" my toyota... snap!!! crackle.... guhgughughugh. broken hub and almost hydro-locked motor. not too into mud any more...

The other thing I found out about riding in mud is that it takes 2 to 10 times longer to clean the mud off than you were in it having fun.

In my Duel-Sport VW I had a walking staff with notches measureing up to 3 feet. When I came across a 'puddle' that I had doubts about, I would get out and probe, (Penny wise, and pound foolish). Been really stuck and it is no fun. Perhaps I need to re-think and carry something on the TW. So far, I have been lucky. Gerry

was out by edwards AFB with two trucks. Luckly I was the second, came to a mudd puddle just like the other 20 we went thru, and I watch their truck fly skyward. seems there was a fairly large rock in the middle. all fun until the truck didnt make it out, and was high centered on it. two hours working to get it free. I guess the problem with mud is it aint clear, might as well drive with your eyes close for a few seconds every once and a while.

Mudholes are often full of rocks, logs, etc. previous fools used to get out, then left behind. Always walk mud and water crossings or suffer the consequences.

And/or just don't do them unless impossible to circumvent...that's my policy, based on, past experiences...lol.



Wilco: First off buy yourself some proper riding gear: solid boots, gloves, a spine(back) protector, and a good riding jacket with CE approved shoulder and elbow pads. Then: try something a bit smaller first.
