Hey Everyone,

I'm looking at purchasing a Fly Trekker Helm online - not sure they sell them around here.

I currently have a 2012 Bell Customer 500 in an XL which is great to and from work everyday (quick 5-10 minute rides) I'm looking for something with a full facemask for longer rides that'll keep me protected on the hwy. Does anyone by chance have both a custom and a Fly Trekker to help me learn how the sizing compares? Some friends say i should go with an L on the fly trekker because if I keep it for a few years it will pack down and loosen up?

Can anyone help or comment on this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello. I may be of some assitance. I too wear an XL and own a Fly Trekker, I do not own a Bell. I originally bought the AFX-39 Hi-Viz in XL, after its break in period the helmet felt too loose on my head and I really wasn't impressed with AFX's Hi-Viz color. I then bought the Fly Trekker in XL. I purchased it online via RevZilla, they explained to me that the AFX-39 and Fly Trekker are virtually the same helmet except that Fly uses different thicker padding and has a D-strap chin strap. The thicker padding makes for a snugger fit. I am very happy with the sizing and fitting of the Trekker, plus Trekker's version of Hi-Viz is SUPER bright. It is a florescent yellow/green and can be seen from 1/2 mile away. The helmet has good venting and the flip down face shield has no distortion. The helmet is a great bang for the buck!

i own both the trekker and the 500...i just had another member ask me about the trekker...my head is 22.75" and i got a large trekker (medium = 22 3/8 - 22 3/4, large = 23 1/8 - 23 1/2) and it fits fine so i would say go a size up if you are close...i would have to check my bell to see what size that is...the trekker is a great hot weather helmet...lots of ventilation (also loud at high speeds) plus the goggle strap slots on the sides...it's nice to leave the lid open and just use goggles which i do a lot...i don't think it would be too good for cold weather...it's a decent helmet for the price...it's no where near as comfortable as my arai but it's comfortable enough for me to not wear my arai during the summer just due to the ventilation and being able to wear goggles...as you can see it's huge compared to my arai and not so streamlined so at higher speeds the visor and the shield (if up) catch a lot of air and pull your dome every which way so i won't use it if i plan on being on the highway for a while...there is a bunch of customer reviews on them where some people comment on the sizing...the sizing chart is on there as well...here is a video review...

Hey Guys thanks for your feedback.

I'm just not sure what size to order as i have to order online and i cant try before i buy.

After further reading online some people say its a large exterior but has a tight fit. I'm leaning towards the XL. Point, is it possible you can let me know if you have the same size as you're custom 500?

thanks

i checked and i have a large in the custom 500 as well...medium (22 1/2 - 22 3/4) large (22 3/4 - 23 1/4) by this sizing chart on the motorcycle superstore website...so i was right on the border with this helmet as well

Hey Guys,

So I picked up a Flytrekker, it was delivered yesterday - I went with the Neon Green and since all of my riding is around the city this should help me stand out for the crazy taxi and bus drivers in HK.

Went with the XL, fit is perfect, a bit tight on the face but not bad... the helmet itself is crazy large on the outside, but all in all i'm happy.

As a side note, I've purchased both my helmets from the guys at Motorcycles508.com. I first met them via ebay where i purchased my Bell Custom, i called them up to get the flytrekker and they gave me the best price i could find online.

cheers.

Well, I'm a little late on this thread, but I have the Fly Trekker. I'm curious to know if your shield distorts because mine distorts something horrible in the middle of the shield. If they normally don't, I may try another visor. I find this helmet has somewhat broken into the odd shape of my head and I know find it almost as comfortable as my Arai VX-PRO. I believe it to be quite quiet too (with the shield down).

Glad you found your size. The helmet looks great in that color.

Hey Retmotor,

I find the shield of my trekker is clear and doesn't distort at all - if I have it in the middle position (half down) it will distort so i wont use it like that.. but fully closed i find it clear as day..

I'd agree the helmet is very quiet with the shield down. I'm very happy all in all - great helmet and great buy!

Thanks, Nerk. I think I'll try ordering a new shield. It kind of sounds like I got a bad one.

A year ago I established that The Fly Trekker and others are just rebranded THH-TX26.

http://tw200forum.com/index.php?/topic/2778-dual-sport-helmet-experience/

I found a THH for = $100 online from a local supplier.

http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/36333914/THH_TX26_HELMET.html Now there seem to be none available and you have to pay more for branding with no graphics like the Fly.

Anyhow, I have had a year's use of mine now and have not looked back. The lining pops into the washing machine with no fuss. I took my old Bell with rotten foam that could not be changed to the dump. Given that the THH is used so widely by other brands means that spares are available in the long term.
