Check your local County website's GIS for Lidar imagery, Curry County Oregon has it available now.
While researching real estate I kept going to county websites for data and use their GIS.
GIS is usually more focused on the TAX Info and dont care to have current Hi Res Satt photos BUT Curry County in Southern Oregon now has LIDAR imaging available.
Lidar lets you see thru the trees and exposes the trails beneath, and this beats the hell outta looking between the trees for trail segments.

The Lidar is in the layers under Rasters

Here is a split screen of the same image, one with trees and then w/out
lidar split screen.JPEG
This wont replace Google Earth but it does give you another way of looking at things.
