I am almost done with new tires sprockets and chain.... Go to mount the front rim back on and the brake pads are closed tight. So I search on here only to find it plainly stated "what even you do do not squeeze the front brake lever with the rim off. Well some how I must have during fighting to keep the bike stable on the jack. SO Please can some one tell me what I need to do? It's been four days working on this project. Now I see why it is people get paid to work on these things! But if I can get it finished I will have saved over $500.00 by doing it my self..... well mostly this forum has helped, and I did pay to have the tires mounted. Thanks again. M

Take off the brake pads and use a c-clamp to push the calipers back in. Replace brake pads and voila!

Before doing that, probably should crack the bleeder on the caliper or take the cap off the m/c, or both.

I've never had to do that in the several times i've done this on different bikes. I understand the thought behind it but I personally don't think that it is necessary. To each his own I guess.

Thanks That is just what I did. Took me a little time, would be done if I had the right chain!. Seems to me I saw on here 2009 TW stock chain was 120 link. Well with the new 14t front a new 50t rear 120 does not even come close. There is something to be said for purchasing local from the dealer to bad they want to jack the price so high. I got a DID oring chain and two sprockets for less then what my dealer wanted for a chain. But I probable would have gotten the right length from the dealer. Looks like it wont up running until next week sometime. If I had the $880.00 bucks the dealer wanted to replace the chain sprockets and tires I would have done that. Some people are not meant to mess with this stuff! Me being one! Thanks for the help. M

Congrats on getting it all done. The way I look at is if I work on it and screw it up it is no different than the guys at the shop working on it and screwing it up except that they'll lie to me about it and charge me even more to fix their screw up.

Thanks for the support... this is my only transpiration been borrowing a car to get to work and putting gas in that plus time spent on this sure makes paying for it to get done right seem a lot simpler.



I check the forum again.... But please correct me if I am wrong 2009 TW with a 428 14T front and a 428 50T rear I will need a 122 link 428 chain YES? ( the chain length is not in my owners manual) Going to try and find one tomorrow local if not then order one on line. Thanks again for your time. M

Rather than trust what I read on the internets, I buy a longer chain and shorten it. i think the one I bought for my tee dub was 130 teeth. Install and shorten as needed to get the tensioners oriented properly. You can always cut one shorter within a minute or two but you can't stretch it longer.
