First longer ride to work on the Shinko 241 and I love it so far, cant wait to try it off road! On a side note the Ken Sean folding mirrors rock!
I'll have to have a look see at those mirrors. Thanks!

The 241 on snow, wet roots, loam mud, rocks, logs, all good....Slush, or mud and then sand before the mud clears not so good. No tire is good for everything but so far I like it much better then the 244. The 244 was a little better in mud/sand conditions. But the hard rubber 244 is no where near as good in the winter as the 241.

While at the Swell I had a flat on my 244. I noticed it LOW but didn't pay that much attention to it and went on the ride. When I got back I noticed that the bead was away from the rim. Other than that it looked fine. I had rode it for about 15mi flat at speed without knowing it was flat. No damage to the tire at all. The tube after inspection had been put in with a fold in it. A hole developed in a crease. I was given a tube and I was back on the road. TW friends are like no others.

As far as mirrors on a TW, they are made for thin folks. I can't see around my arms with them.

The 244 would make a great candidate for low pressure tubeless mounting in warmer climates.

Finally tried out the Shinko 241 in the sand, sooo much better compared to the stock tire off road. I found that I had way more control on the straits and I was able to enter and exit turn with a lot more speed. Next step is to try the tire in the mountains. :D
Sand, yummy!

The SHINKO SR241 looks good for the all around rider, but what is recommended for the So. CA guys that spend 90% plus of riding in sand?

I use my MT43 in lots of sand, MOAB and the Oregon dunes. The key to sand riding is weight and power to the rear wheel. An ATV tire on the back will do more for sand riding than any front tire.

My local MC dealer cant get a Shinko 241. Wasn't there a more expensive equivalent? Seems like i remember there being one. Thanks guys.

Michelein has some really nice intermediate terraiin tires but they can be a bit more than just a bit more expensive for some equivalents Tire Synthetic rubber Automotive tire Auto part Tread

This one,mic_13_tir_des_rac-rea.jpg, comes in a bit more at $190.88 in a 140/80x18

Front Tire & Rim Options

I am new to the forum, which I am sure you have heard many times. I know this thread talks about the front tire and I have searched for the answer prior to me asking these next questions. Guess I am a little slow figuring out these things. My questions: 1) Stock set up, what is the widest tire that can be used on the stock rim. 2) what is the widest rim that can be used in the stock set up (existing triple tree and forks)

Again, apologizes if the answers have already been given somewhere here.

I had a 5.10 X 18 golden boy on the front and a 130/90 will fit, but a smaller tire will be more responsive.
A 4.10 X 18 will provide all the traction you need.
