Sinkers are acceptable wheel weights, just balance right. The '87 CDI is unique to that year, so when yours goes, you might have a hard time finding a used one, and they're expensive new. Some other things about the electrical system are unique to certain years. Doing a search on the website will give you some more info.

The more important stuff is after 2001 they change to a disc brake front, so fork lowers, handbrake, hubs are different. And the carb is a different model, meaning different cables, maybe the throttle, jets, etc. They also removed the kickstarter, but that doesn't affect you if you're looking for parts.

Honestly the price sounds a bit high, but you talk like it's close to showroom quality. Too late now anyhow. Replace those tires if you're in any situation where you don't want a blowout or a stiff tire making you lay it down. Get the manual on this site and read about the break-in procedure. You need to follow that, since the mileage is so low. Stock chain doesn't last long when new. A stock chain that's 26 years old is probably even worse. Upside is the sprockets are still new enough to be paired with a new chain without having wear issues.

Do your reading, use the search function of the site, and have fun. Welcome.

It sounds like you have a pretty rare "survivor" original model year TW.

There can't be many of those left, and with rumors that the end of the line for the TW looms near (if it hasn't already passed unannounced) I would do my best to preserve that thing if I were you.

There are a lot of TW nuts on here (i.e. me!), and if one of us comes into money someday you could stand to turn a real profit if you keep that '87 cherry in the meantime.

Or just tear it to pieces and thrash it to death like the rest of us do! Either way, you can't lose!

Sounds like a great deal to me! I have been looking for a used TW for close to a year with no luck, here in MN,I just bought a 2013 for $3,900. A friend of mine has an 87 with 15,000 miles its never had an issue, even with teenagers driving it 90% of the time. Good find.
