Hi, just changed oil my first time, replaced battery and cleaned air filter but I have this stuff ( No-Toil Rim Grease) that I believe you are supposed to put around base of air filter (a bead for sealing) but not sure fully where it goes and my guy friend you usually helps me is out of town. Any quick advice?

Thanks Mtn Girl

Looks like it's made for a much different different style of foam filter then a stock tw. I would think that goo would clog up the mesh screen in the airbox.

Edit: From what I've been able to google. it's used mainly on off road bike and atv multistage foam filters to keep it from wiggling off the airboxes solid base.

The TW airbox cover makes a decent seal without any sealant, I've seen them go underwater without leaking. If any air managed to leak under the cover it would still have to go through the foam filter.

If you have a stock tw air filter.

Remove it

Degrease, clean and dry

Re-oil (with whatever brand you like) ,wring out excess oil and reinstall.

I extended my airbox drain hose to hold extra oil, if I over oil my filter again.

You do not use that on our type of air filters. That is used on cone shaped filters to seal it to the plastic, keeping "dirty" air from seeping under/around the filter and dirtying up the carb and engine.

You will be fine but I would avoid using it in the future. Keep it simple and good job working on your bike. Now if I could only get my fiancee to do some of this on her bike. It's hard enough to even get her to watch!

These guys are right. That rim grease is to apply to the rim of a different shaped filter to help seal it. I used it on my MX bike for a little while (my filter looked identical to the one in the pic above), but found it unnecessary and quit using it....it's just extra mess and my top end looked just as spotless at each rebuild with or without out it.

I do use the NoToil oil still, even on my K&N. Cleaning filters after every ride on my MX bike it was a Godsend.

On the TW it's still easier, and you don't have to handle any harsh cleaners or motor oil for your filter.

You can just wash your filter in a sink full of water (even the kitchen sink when you're wife isn't home). It's all non-toxic....

Good bunch of folks over at NoToil. I've called them a few times over the years and always got great service.

Have to agree with Jason. My son used the grease on his TTR. Ended up with a gooey mess to clean whenever servicing the air filter.
