A young guy in good shape on a long legged 2 stroke bike with big knobbies could ride this trail in about 5 minutes or less. Well, that is not me. I had just ridden 3 other trails and was feeling tired and worn out so it took me more like 18 minutes but I managed to edit out 10 of them to make the video bearable. My goal is to go back and ride this trail first and cut my time in half or better, a goal that will have to wait until at least after the New Year and possibly the Spring when the ground is dry.

All totaled, it was still a great day!!!!!!

What beautiful scenery and a great trail! Why would you want to shorten the time you spend on it?

Looked like a GREAT RIDE Tony.. That area is soooo California. Reminded me a lot of all the hiking I have done in Briones park. Again, maybe it is the camera lens, but those trails did not look much more than 18" wide and those drops into ravines seemed to be pretty much at the edge of the trail in some places. Really enjoyed the video, looks to be a nice place to ride and you seem to have the place pretty much to yourself. Thanks. Gerry

So, I say to myself, a good long video from Tony riding the Hollister Hills, I better enjoy this one (as the riding season has slowed). So I put the video on full screen, full HD, put on my best headphones, turn up the sound so I can enjoy the full riding expirence. This was a fun video and I enjoyed it a lot. Got a kick and laughed out loud on the "Long Shadows" note. Good one!

This past year on a ride with Ron from Boise, on my second fall, I think I cussed, which I don't do very often, just ask my wife. I laughed when you said "not again". I can relate!

Thanks for sharing your ride. It has inspired me to try and get in a ride, hopefully tomorrow. It will be chilly!

That is a fun looking trail. The Admiral is right about not swearing. I have only seen it happen once. I enjoy riding with him because with him along it is like having a wrecker when things get out of sorts. I think he could bench press the TW.

Thanks for sharing Tony. Haven't been to Hollister in a couple years. Might make a great spot for a little TW group ride. I seem to remember a couple of good mexican restuarants in the area for a post ride refueling.

How much of a stretch are the Pinnacles/Coalinga areas for you guys?

I've done a lot of pig hunting up in there. Seems like you could stay busy in there for days on a dualsport.

East entrance of Pinnacles is about 2hrs 10mins from Walnut Creek, so probably about 1.5 hours for the San Jose folks. When I lived in Paso Robles they use to do a lot of wild pig hunting in the area east and north of town.

First gear on black diamond trails for me. Plenty of power and good braking.

Are the Pinnacles open to OHV traffic? I would be surprised if they were.

East of King City there is some BLM land called "Clear Creek". It used to be open to hunting, OHV and what ever else you wanted to do. I've had many good times there. A few years ago someone decided because of asbestos in the ground it was best to close it to the public. Asbestos was mined there for years and years but not any more.

Sometimes I think the Government is being overly protective. Of everyone I knew that went there not one single person has come down with asbestosis or any other asbestos related disease.Go figure.

the pinnacles NM aren't open to motorized vehicles, but clear creek still has some areas that are open. hollister hills orv is more or less adjacent to the pinnacles.

I generally walk in from the Laguna Mountain staging area when hunting, so I haven't done much offroading in the area. I guess the area I'm referring to is the Clear Creek area if that's the stretch between Laguna and Coalinga. My understanding was that the asbestos closures were seasonal. The only time I've ridden on that stuff was when it was wet and that was "interesting". always wanted to go back. It's now off limits?

Ha-ha, yeah! Atta-boy Tony! You gotta love that little mountain goat we call the TW! Good quality video too. What kind of set up are you using? It looks like maybe a chest mount, but it didn't look all fish-eyey like most gopro vids. Keep it up, and I'll look forward to seeing more. Thanks.

I use Liquid Image goggles -- the camera is right between my eyes. http://www.liquidimageco.com/ I bought them off http://www.woot.com/ for < $100. They keep "selling out" but if you wait a week or two they get more and they are usually $5 cheaper.

Never been to Hollister hills but looks fun. Had a camping/riding trip planned sept 2011 but death in the family cancelled it. Next spring/summer a weekend camping/riding TW group would be cool. Its a bit far for a day trip from me (near sacramento).
