Started building a motor guard/skid plate today, I got most of the tubing welded up and patterns for the aluminum inserts done.

Here it is so far.

Looks like the engine guard hoops stick out far enough to provide some side cover protection too, a feature all too lacking in most of the aftermarket plates.

Boy thats nice. Should have made more than just 1 while you were at it! Even without the inserts that looks tougher than the aluminum foil skid plate we have now.

After re-reading your initial post, I understand now that the aluminium inserts will allow the guard to 'slide' over any jagged surface. You are certainly a Master innovator when I comes to TW mods. Gerry

Those look great. I only have one question, having not seen the finished product, will you be adding any vents in the skid plate portion that allows for airflow?

That's funny, I started to build an aluminum skidplate only to find I was unable to bend the 3/16s aluminum with my brake so out came the tubing bender.

I have been following your build and am very impressed with your work, and may have to copy some of your ideas

I did look at pegs, but I only use it for camping and I am trying to keep it simple.

I am hoping it will not need vents, it sits lower then the fins.

Thanks for all the comments and input. I am still playing with it so all input is welcome.

I may add a cross bar in the loop. I think the way it is now it would bend in a hard get-off but would save the motor. I am still looking at plating the loops like the bottom or expanded metal or 1/2 and 1/2, top 1/2 expanded metal for air flow.

I need to stay away from this site, every time I think I am done with my TW I come on and see all your mods
