I'm in Southern California. I've been looking for a TW on craigslist but haven't found many to choose from. The ones I have seen are so close to the new price, or very old. These sure seem to hold value!

Anyway, I can get a 2012 TW for 5000.00 out the door. Is that about as good as it gets?

Hope to see some of you on the trails soon!

No way. You can easily get a used 07-10 between 3 and 4 thousand easily. An older 2001-2005 could easily be had for around 2k, perhaps less.

If you want the satisfaction of knowing it's new and not abused by some idiot, 5k isn't too bad out the door, though personally I'd never pay anywhere near 5k for a TW, it's just not enough bike to justify the cost.

Dark Sol, I've looked at a couple in the 3000-4000 range. I would just as soon pay an extra 1000 to 1500 for new vs. one with 7000 - 12000 unknown miles with unknown oil changes etc. A used one would have to be less than half of the new cost to really interest me. So far I have found one in the 2000-2500 range but it was a 2001 model. That's pretty old!

I've read of the lucky people who find a four year old TW with 1000 miles, but I haven't been that lucky yet.

Digger988, $4000.00 out the door? That is a great price. I may have to push a bit harder on the dealer. Of course California is probably going to be more expensive than just about anywhere.

Thanks for the feedback on this.

For new you have to remember that prices are different in different parts of the country. And "out the door" will vary also because taxes, title etc. are not the same everywhere and can vary a lot.

I am on my 3rd TW, the first 2 were used, low mileage, looked and ran great but ended up having issues, so I found a new 2012... which wasn't easy in my area, I had to drive 120 miles to a dealership to get it, the 2 closer dealers couldn't come up with any.

Used ones seem scarce now too around where I am.

I paid about $4600 "out the door" (bike was $4100) but also got a 5 year factory warranty in that price.

My last one (2007) looked and ran great... but...I would have had to spend $$ on a new tire, chain, probably sprockets, there was some unexplained junk in the oil at the last change and signs of the base gasket oil weep issue so to me the new one was a no-brainer, and now for the next 5 years any issues it may develop are Yamaha's problem.

good luck

Good information to factor into the equation. Thanks!

The bike itself is right at 4000.00, Almost 500.00 is tax. The rest is license a small doc fee and reasonable freight fee. This place doesn't charge a "set-up" fee.

Don't know the market in your area but doesn't sound bad to me. You may consider haggling them on the longer factory warranty... unlimited mileage ends up as a 5 year just the same as the standard Yamaha warranty. Maybe they will throw it in.

The market in my area is a little sparse, in terms of used. I looked at a 2005 XT225 (3000.00). This bike was in really nice shape, with low miles, but it is 7 years old. That is the only used bike I have found that even interested me.

I can get a new kawasaki KLX 250s for just over $5000 (this is probably the best "bang for the buck"). The TW200 just seems right. Low and slow suits me well.

I'm going to check with another dealer tomorrow to see what kind of deal they can do.

Just checked on the Internet

New 2011 Scottsdale, AZ $3,495

New 2010 Franklin, TN $3,499

New 2010 El Cajon, CA $3,697

All from dealers

Actually that 2011 in Scottsdale isn't available anymore. It's in my driveway!

Nice score!

Thanks! Yeah, I spotted the deal after shopping around for used ones. I couldn't find anything locally for less than $3300, and that one was a 2006 with like 3700 miles on it. A dealer here in Tucson wanted over $4000 for a used 2011, so I decided it was worth the drive up to Scottsdale for a brand new one.

You can find some stupid good deals on last year's models sometimes, especially after the current year models come in!

Bullspit, Like you, I looked for used TW's in So. Cal. for 6 months and everyone I looked at was either overpriced, IMO, or beat to shet. This was 2008. I ended up spending the extra money and bought a new 2008 for $3699.00 OTD from the local Yamaha dealer. Call around to different dealers and ask for OTD prices. Back in 2008 I called 3 dealers and everyone quoted me an OTD price over the phone. Made it real simple. Also check cycletrader, there are some new 2010's out there for almost $800 cheaper. Good luck.

Smokin' deal unless it has issues.

Is that in "our" high desert, or those other folks' high desert? If in ours I'd be glad to help you check it out if that would help.
