If you get down on your knees and look up between the tyre and back mudguard you will see 2 bolts that go straight up into the seat base, undo these and the seat will lift up and back to remove.

Then the battery is easy to access.

If you search "mule nuts" and seat I think you will find a picture.

You may find it easier to put back the seat and easier access in the future, if you replace those bolts with the same size stainless alan head bolts.

A short allen wrench will then hold the bolt for you as you blindly grope for the right place.

This seat mounting system was not one of Yamahas finer designs.
