I just picked up my new to me 1994 TW200. 2350 miles extra rear wheel good tire and brake assembly. Has not ran in a couple years. The carb was drained before storage, the tank was not and has rust in it.

I have a T-Dub with a bit of surface corrosion in the tank, all I did was swish fuel around in the tank and then dumped it out a couple of times, then I took the petcock out and cleaned the screens for the main and reserve sections. I do, on a regular basis back out the drain screw on the bottom of my carb to drain any crap and corruption that may accumulate over time!

There are a couple of internal coatings that are available, but if my tank was that bad I would find a replacement tank. You may benifit from adding an in-line filter to your bike!

Good luck with the new machine!!

Congrats on getting a TW. Hope your tank situation is workable, if not, there are some larger after market tanks available for about $200.... Many on this forum have gone that route.

Dump a quart of kerosene and a handful of small pieces of hardware in the tank. Shake until the rust is knocked loose. Rinse. Remove and dissassemble petcock for cleaning.

If it's not terrible, a solution of vinegar and water left over night followed by a few rinses of kerosene will fix it right up. Try to avoid coatings as they usually fail.

Thanks guys. I am going to give some vinegar a try. I did buy a new tank. So I might put the other one up for sale or keep it for a back up.
