I will try my best to explain. How do I make sure the crank shaft is in the proper postion, before I put the timing gear



& chain on. Do I need to pull the side cover, to do the cranksaft? Is there a mark we go by. Thanks Mike

Have you read the servicde manual? It does show the process. If you don't have the manual, you can download it free from this site. To answer your question, no, you shouldn't have to pull the cover if I recall correctly. However, at this moment I can't seem ot open my manual so I have to go fix that issue before I can give you a positive answer.
