Caution, When I tried to insert the key from my parts bike (1992 or 93) into the ignition of the 2002 that I ride daily, the key would not fit (i.e. the blank was an inverse). Thus there must be more than one blank for the tw series. Check before you buy or be prepared to return for credit would be my advice. I had one key done at a professional shop that would not work, but I'm not saying that you have to go to Yamaha - just be careful what the local key guy tells you. Tom

Yes, there is an early and a late blank, and they are inverse from one another, as Peruano said. My TW's are a mixture of early and late ignition switches, helmet locks and fuel caps. LOL. One bike has 3 keys. If I recall, the stealer gets 13 bucks just for the blanks, and I had to go get them cut elsewhere.

FYI,my local Yamaha counter guy is pretty good, and has always been able to crossreference, scrounge or locate substitutes for things. But yesterday he told me that both Yamaha and the individual dealers have recently embraced the "10 year rule" in a big way, and not to expect him to continue to be a good parts guy, cuz they took all his tools away (parts fiche, service manuals, etc.) concerning anything beyond ten years. Even their service dept. is expected to get all info online from Yamaha, including service manuals. Paperless shop, front to back. The only paper remaining are catalogs for aftermarket parts.

That means that next year things like TK carb parts, drum brake shoes and early key blanks are potentially gunna vaporize?

Xracer, are those Curtis numbers early and late, respectively?

I had a copy made last week at the local Ace Hardware store. It was an Ilco blank that is marked x119 on the left side and yh47 on the right.

The chica making the copy did a crappy job, but the blank fits my '06 just fine.
