hey everyone, ive decided to go ahead and attemp to jet carbs on my own for the first time. i got a #130 main jet on the way and a #38 pilot jet coming and some shims for the needle. what i need to know is, is there any special tools to remove the jets or needle? the jets look like they have a slot on them but that might not mean its ment for a screw driver. i dont want to destroy anything and not know i did damage. any other help or tips would be greatly appreciated about needle shimming. thanks a bunch.

You will need common hand tools and vice-grips to get the float bowl screws out. Cancel the pilot jet--you won't need it. The main jet is a hex, not slotted. If you chose to buy non-Yamaha jets, I can't help you as I have no experience with aftermarket junk.

You may want to do a before and after, if nothing else to acquaint yourself with the cause and effect.



If you don't want to mess with plug chops, post good closeups of your plug now, then after riding the bike for a few days after changing the jetting and we'll try to tell you when you're there. Replace it or clean it til it shines in between.

qwerty the main jet is hex, i was just looking at the wrong part. ive studied the pics you posted very well and now have all the parts memorized and there locations. lizrdbrth thanks for the link on plug chops, should be easy enough on a tw. but i ill post some before and after plug shots just to get other peoples input. thanks for the help guys.
