The "parts bike" I have came with a muffler from an R6. Nice sound but not Forest Service approved. I scored a new muffler and exhaust pipe for real cheap and decided to put them on the bike. Long story short it didn't quite fit. What I did was take a good sized fender washer, cut a slot in it, drilled a couple of holes, used other washers for spacers, and bolted it together. Perhaps I should have trimmed the washer a little more but no harm leaving the extra metal there.

I think the pictures can show what I did far better than I can explain it. Looks a little mickey mouse but it works.

How trashed is the R6 muffler?

When I bought the bike I was told the muffler was from an R6. I have no reason to doubt him but one never knows.

If you are looking for an R6 muffler for an R6 this one won't bolt on -- the inlet pipe has been modified for the TW.

The mount on the muffler top uses one of the bolts that bolts the rear sub frame to the main frame. A longer bolt with large washers are needed. There is no middle mount.

Overall I think for a TW the muffler is decent.

Picture of muffler on garage floor. Welds pointed out. Blue melted plastic on leading edge of muffler.
