Did anyone else have to plug in the little red wire coming from the headlight? I plugged in the main connector and everything works as it should. I guess the red wire is only for certain year models?

The extra red wire is for powering the optional daytime running light which glows red. I don't recommend powering the daytime running light unless you ride exclusively off road.

Are you saying the daytime running light is within the headlight? My front blinkers stay on with the headlight fulltime and then blink when the blinker switch is activated like the oem setup.

Yes, the LED headlight has an internal daytime running light. It only works if you supply 12V to the red wire separate of the H4 plug.
I finally got my headlight.
Was excited to build a switch (DPDT) that allows me to run regular headlight operation or to run daytime mode... i.e., headlight and front turn signal running lights off and JNS headlight Daytime mode on.

UNFORTUNATELY... the daytime running mode (DRL) has the white stripe across the headlight lit (very nice) but also has the center (high beam) led portal casting a red light.
This is NOT good as most US states do not allow for a forward facing red light except for emergency vehicles. California doesn't permit this.

Is there any way to shut off the red led in DRL mode? (and leave the white band illuminated)
I WILL NOT be able to use the DRL mode on the road as I had intended. Bummer.

If this is ordered off you site now will the "white" version be shipped? Also the black / chrome selector on the order form seems to be broken.

Update: I recently had the headlight manufacturer change the DRL from red to white.

Good daytime running light improvement as California is not the only state that prohibits forward facing red or blue lighting on non-emergency vehicles when operated on public roads.

Yes, I will only be shipping the white DRL headlight from now on.

The drop down menu works of you click on the word "Chrome" instead of the tiny up/down arrows. Not sure why it does that.

Quick Headlight Review

Installed my JNS led headlight today and took the bike out for a quick test ride.

Overall I really like it, throws way more light than the stock one and looks badass.

A couple complaints though;

The lense (which is plastic unlike the glass of the stock one) scratches REALLY REALLY easily. I went to wipe a smudge off it with my riding gloves and put a ton of marks in it on accident (see picture below). Not good for a bike that will more than likely have tree branches, brush, and who knows what else rubbing on that lense.

Also, the low beam has a weird pattern of reflective light, looks like 6 individual spots, 3 on the bottom and 3 on top (see picture below). The ones on top are pointed up really high and are pretty bright, making very distracting lights up in the trees while riding. Not sure if this is just an issue with my light or if they all do this.

Like I said overall I really do like it a lot, just for price point I wasn't expecting to have issues like this.

Maybe I was just seeing only the daytime running light, or perhaps just dirt film on the lens was blocking much of the light but one of our San Rafael riders had the new JNS light and it was always recognizable in my rear view mirror as far and away the dimmest of the many TWs behind me. I didn't mention anything at the time to the proud new owner but I was curious as to why it seemed so inexplicably dim. We never got to ride at night together so I did not get a chance to see what is undoubtedly a very effective Hi-beam.
Is there a day time running light only switch position, or perhaps owner accidentally omitted to connect the Lo-Beam chipset power lead? Faulty light somehow?
Sorry if this sounds negative, I am only relaying my observations of a single JNS equipped TW's anomalously weak illumination.

I just received and installed my LED light, and was wondering the same thing. I am going to head to Best Buy and see about a Tablet adhesive screen cover, fit and cut to size. If it doesn't affect the light projection, it may be a way of protecting this investment..??

MFG feedback on this idea please??

Great idea Ron.
I was thinking about a headlight guard. Your idea is cheaper though:)

I went to the local London Drugs store and picked up a generic 8 inch tablet adhesive screen and cut that to size, installed and trimmed the adges carefully with a new razor blade. A few very small bubbles that will probably work its way out. Beam on the wall really shows no difference in the light as far as I can see.
A 13 dollar screen protect, will help with the rocks, bugs and scratching. Dont know if it would save it from ever cracking from a rock hit, but you never know.

Good call on the screen protector film, I think I'm going to try that.

What is the general headlight aiming procedure? Is there a way to measure the cutoff at a certain distance on a wall or something?
