I came across this Tail light from 12oclocklabs for $54.95

I was wondering if anybody out there has tried it.

It cost about the same as the Baja but I like the design a bit better.

Based on the picture, do you guys think it will be feasible to install it?

Thanks!

It's certainly feasible to install it. I've never tried that one, but I have tried the Baja, and it's very tough and reliable. I had one on a DRZ400s for about 5 years, under all conditions, including some hare scrambles and motocross races, and it was still going strong when I sold my bike a few months ago. That said, the one you're looking at has a much better coolness factor.

That's the DRC Edge 2 light. Member pgilles installed one on his TW. I agree that it is a good looking taillight. I think pgilles wrote a post on his install but I cant find it offhand.

You might also want to check out Wheeling Cycle Supply, as they have a lot of DRC Electrical products and their customer service is top notch.

Thanks guys!

I think I will go for it. It will give it a different look, plus with all the ice on the road I am still a few weeks away from ridding, so might as well get myself busy with little projects. Already replaced the clutch basket on the DL1000, regular maintenance on the R6s and a carburator cleaning and overhaul on a ninja 500... running out of winter projects!

Yep, I have the same tail light. I can take some photos of how I did it, but they won't be up til tomorrow or so. I like it, but the only time I've looked at it was when I installed it. Every now and then I put my hand over the back of it to check if it still lights up. So far so good.

You might want to check and see if it's DOT approved. If not and someone can't see you,and hits you, your insurance might not cover.

They have one that is not DOT approve, but I can't find any info on this one.

Boret, post some pictures of it when you get it on!

I will for sure.

Did you get the red or the smoke? I can really tell much from the avatar pic. If you can post any pictures that would be great, thanks pgilles!

I really considered the smoke. I think it'd look good, but I opted for the red. My avatar still has the stock beaver tail on it.

The DRC isn't big. It's about 4 inches wide, and 1.5 inches tall at its widest spot. Not sure how the Baja Designs measures out. I do kinda wish the DRC was a little bigger.

I opted for just the light, not the mount. With just the light I had to make my own mount, which consisted of a piece of aluminum angle (1"x1", 5" length), and I had to supplement it with a plastic license plate holder (we have an abundance of them at work off of rear trailer lights).

1) Match drill the angle to the two existing holes on the frame (holes that were used for mounting the stock beaver tail).

2) Drill two clearance holes for mounting the light to the angle, centering the holes based off the mounting holes in step 1.

3) Drill two clearance holes for mounting the license plate holder, then countersink the light side of these holes and use countersunk bolts.

4) Drill two clearance holes on the license plate holder keeping it centered. The plastic license plate holder I had didn't have a good angle to it so I heated it up and bent it until I was satisfied.

These steps should be seen easily below...otherwise, let me know if you have questions.

Plastic trailer license plate holder looked similar to this:

Nice post, pgilles! These are the types of instructional posts that I like.

Even though I am going with a different taillight, and just finished fabricating my bracket (I'll post a write up and pictures soon), I enjoy seeing how other people carried out their installs and mods.

Thanks Pgilles for the detailed description.... I am a bit concerned with it being that small. Maybe in Smoke might not be as noticeable how small it is. Does anyone have a picture of the Baja Design light from behind?

One more thing Pgilles, do you have any pictures with the light on?

I already replaced the turn lights to smaller ones, so maybe it won't look as small then. The OEM one looks to big!

I installed the DRC, Edge 2 tail light on my Zong over 2 years ago. Since then, I have ridden about 35,000 miles with this tail light installed on my bike. The Edge 2 is very rugged, and I have been very pleased with its performance; I don't think it is too small.

Thanks for the pictures guys!

I've been looking around and I like both the BD and the Edge2 as the best options. Half of the reason is a different look, the other half, and probably more important is the extra Watts available if I go the LED route.

Looks like it's bigger than the DRC. (The DRC is a good size for aesthetics, but sometimes I wonder if it's not easily seen by other motorists and that's why I'd like it bigger).

The DRC has the capability to have integrated blinkers, but it's a more expensive option. Different states have different rules for minimum distance between the blinkers, and the integrated lights wouldn't satisfy some of those. You may want to research your state so you don't receive any unwanted attention by smokey

Doesn't look too difficult to mount that light.

I don't have shots of the DRC lit up, I can try sometime later though. Otherwise, youtube has some info on it...
