I had a silly question, we bought a TW 200 for my youngest son and we’re planning some road trips. My KLR 650 will do 75mph all day long but the TW, not so much. What do you do on those long rides, just keep it off the highway and move over to help people pass you. I notice the back sprocket on ours is a 49 tooth and I’ll have to check the front to see what it is, my son only weighs about 150 lbs so that’ll help. Also do you think a little bigger windscreen might help for those longer rides.

Never move over to help someone pass you. Hold the throttle as wide open as it will go. You can probably maintain 65 mph fairly easy at 150 lbs. A windscreen always helps, but that depends on your style.

The bike is better suited to 55-ish backroads and two-lanes. Not that slabbing it can't be done, but if you really want to ENJOY the ride as opposed to enduring it I'd limit the freeway stuff to just being a means to connect the dots. Ain't nuttin on an interstate worth seeing, anyway.



I'm gunna respectfully disagree with those of you who maintain that you don't have a duty to get the hell out of rest of the world's way when you impede traffic. I ride far more miles than I drive, but if I'm in my car and you don't take the first or second opportunity to be considerate I'm gunna assume you're just a selfish turd, and even I might be tempted to rattle your cage after more than five minutes of that nonsense.

I have a CDL and have to drive a big rig as part of my job (to get my stuff to comp sites) ALWAYS move over it makes everything flow. In Europe they never think about it and more traffic moves well on roads half as good as ours.

My bike will roll 70 all day long and hit 80 down hill in a crouch.. I do feel like it's bad for it, but not really sure... everything I read on here however makes me think that this is abnormal.

True speed or indicated? TW speedometers are usually a fair bit optimistic.

I drive a truck also and have to totally agree with trailerpark. Every time I've been out west the slow people will usually slow and hit a pull off to let you go by. Here in Indiana most of these bucket heads think they own the road and will just keep turdin along or speed up when you try to pass them. Heck they even Drive like this in the fast lane. Occasionally you get a middle finger wave. Just when you think you've seen it all someone will prove you wrong. All I can say is be respectfull and let them pass.

Couple of thoughts.



1) Riding a bike flat out does not allow the rider any safety margin - accelerating out of a bad situation. What if you pull out to pass and something changes? On you 650 you just crank the throttle and escape. So, I would say, stick to the sideroads with the TW. Especially with a new learning driver.



2) We are taught in motorcycle school to pull over and let tailgaters go by, and that's on a bike that can do the speed limit. Anytime you are holding up traffic, someone is going to get impatient, make a bad choice and you will pay for it. If it is safe to do so, pull over.



3) My son is 16 next year and I have given this alot of thought. He is learning to ride on a dirt bike and likely will not get a TW for the road.



4) When I ride my TW, I plan to avoid major roads. But alternatively many of our members slab it on their TW's.
