The title says it all. So far I am looking at the Yamaha FZ8 and the Triumph Street Triple. So far the Triumph has the lead, but I have a couple months to think it over before I will be going to buy one.



You guys always have great input, curious which you would choose for a mid weight naked bike.



I should mention, I'll be keeping the TW.

I'm not familiar with the FZ8, but I know the modern Triples are outright amazing with the right operator. I'd imagine parts availability and dealer support is going to be better with Yamaha though. Triumphs (race bikes so apples and oranges) still have engine issues from time to time, but nothing like the oil leaks of olde. I'd say it would just be more expensive to maintain the Triumph when something goes south, but they're usually very capable. The Yamaha is probably going to have a larger aftermarket as well.

I was also really intrigued by the FZ8, but I had a hard time finding a review of one that was positive. Evidently it's basically just a sleeved-in down-tuned FZ1, so you get all of the weight of the liter version with a power output much closer to the FZ6. Seems like a bad deal to me, even though that FZ8 is a fine LOOKING machine.

I actually got a chance to ride both the FZ1 and the FZ8. Even though the FZ8 is only 15 pounds lighter, it feels a lot lighter, probably because the steering is super light compared to the FZ1, really can't figure out why. The FZ8 also had a lot less power, I think 60hp less.



I haven't gotten a chance to get on a Street Triple yet. I think the Triple looks better personally, and all of its numbers are better. I guess I am just really worried about the maintenance cost. Though the warranty is better on the Triumph.

I'm wondering if the Triumph is like Audi Quatro ? Awesome machine to operate.. but once the "owners card" is expired it's time to get rid of it ASAP before something EXPENSIVE breaks... and on an Audi EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE

i would check out the ducati hypermotard series. the 798 is a great bike and the frame is a good start. but, you have to be into single side swing arms.

Absolutely 100 percent, hands down, Street Triple - no competition in my mind. Much better bike IMO. It will definitely handle better, it will stop better, it weighs 64 pounds less, and IMO, looks a lot better.

From all I know of Triumph, this will absolutely not be the case. Triumph's are very reliable machines.
